bumper

the quality of the bumper is good for the price, im not a big fan of wrinkle finishes... powder coat would have been better.
as far as the durability i think the bumper may buckle under extreme pressure. for what i am going to use it for i am pleased and would feel confident pulling myself or someone else out

Just an update on the HID's , I love the look of the black but these lights are horrible.
I spent about two hours on Saturday doing all the wiring(I am kinda OCD like that when it comes to running wires... it has to look factory installed or I will not be able to sleep). Anyway once done with the install I discover that the headlight switch is bad and replace it. Finally I wait for night fall to see how they look, very dissappointed the amount of light was marginal at best and the scatter of it was crazy. Just maybe I have a ground issue and I am not getting a full 12 volts to the ballast, nope that is not it I have a solid 12 volts. Now I am annoyed to say the least so I remove all the wires , ballasts and hid bulbs and replace them with standard bulbs and still have limited light and horrible scatter. Finally I use the oem sealed beams and they work awesome, so my conclusion is the the hid headlight capsule and so called projector are garbage and do not disperse the light in any one direction and the projector diminishes the overall amount of light. I do get my hands on quite a few oem European headlights that are broken from collision damage with good ballasts and bulbs. I may consider a conversion in the future using the cheap hid capsules.

I also purchased the blacked out lights, mine were standard H1 Halogen. I also experienced poor light distribution. I have since replaced the 9003 H1 with Silverstar high outputs 9003 HO and it has improved the overall brightness. Their kinda pricey. I have 3 other sets of Hella black magics so being able to see will not be an issue. The ballasts you have may be inferior. I have had HID lights before and had one bad ballast that resulted in poor light brightness. Replacing the ballast with one of the european models may be the ticket. Good luck. Enjoying the build.

hid's

thanks for the input, i really appreciate it.
I did get a set of ballasts and bulbs out of a crashed lexus today and will one day get around to make the lexus projectors fit into the capsules.

at this point i am just about complete with this build and am anxious to start driving it again. I have owned this jeep for a long time and this is the longest period of time that i have not driven it.

well i got the front of the lift done as well as replacing the two front calipers and brake lines, will do the rear and x-fer case after church tomorrow. i have owned this jeep for a long time and have never had any issues with rust or frozen bolts or anything. doing the lift today confirmed that living in florida is good, i have heard horror stories of how people have to cut bolts with a torch or grinder jut to begin to put a lift on. i had zero issues with the dissassembly, as a matter of fact once the nuts were broken loose i was able to finish removing most of them with my fingers. i got the new wheels and tires and will post some pics tomorrow and also do some post lift measurements

almost done, installed new wheels and tires, cherry bomb exhaust, tinted the windows. nerf bars will be delivered in a few days, near future upgrades will be a swing out tire carrier with matching wheel and tire, jerry cans, high lift jack and winch. it runs really good and averages about 13.5 mpg so i cannot complain.

Thanks. It's not near the same caliber of build that you are doing, more of a freshening up, but it gets a lot of interest. I just tell people that I have so much in it that they could buy two YJ's for what I would have to have for it. And I haven't touched the interior yet.

Anyway, good job on the build.

most recent photos

it has been a several weeks since my last series of pictures, here are a few. within the next month or two i will add a winch, swing out tire carrier with matching wheel/tire and a few other things. what i have learned about owning a jeep is that no matter what you are never finished with it, i have owned this jeep for a long long time and have never grown tired of it.

I named my jeep

Well after owning this jeep for almost twenty years, I have finally decided to name it. My name is Sean so I thought it only fitting to name it RUBISEAN.
