well i have owned this yj for quite a long time and finally got the go ahead from my wife to redo it. i am a bodyman/painter by trade for the past 26 years. i will attempt to add photos, but will not bore you with all the dissassembly stuff. right now all the body panels have been removed and refinished, interior is all removed as well. dash was dismantled and dyed satin black, did the heater upgade and heater core.
i am down to refinishing the tub and firewall.
jeep was origanally soft top and half doors, bought used full doors and welded the common tears back together then replaced all hardware and weather strips blah blah blah. bought a used hard top, removed all the glass and repaired a few areas then sprayed raptor on it. also bought some nice custom fit neoprene seat skins.
reason for the blue balled name is from my wife, she said if i continue to spend as much time working on that darn jeep, i will figure out the meaning the hard way.
any ways if i am able to add pictures let me know what you think, if i am not able please tell me how. the pics will not be in any specific order.
also note that i have owned this jeep for a long time and it has zero rust, some of the pics of the interior may look like rust but it is the old adhesive that was holding down the carpet. the inside will raptored once all the paint work is done
i will add more pictures tomorror after i get the bodywork done on the tub and have it in primer. with any luck i should have the tub painted within the next few weekends. once the tub is painted i will u-pol raptor the inside then start all the reassembly. i did buy hid black headlights and they look great in the grille. i am going to smoke out the park and side marker lamps too
more in process pictures of the Blue Balled Build thread
got all the body work on the tub and fire wall done yesterday, got it all in primer today. next weekend i will paint the fire wall and start prepping the tub for paint.
also have a handfull of mechanical maintnaince items that i will address since all the sheet meatal is removed and access will be much easier. i have added several pictures showing the progress. cant wait till i can start turning the wrenches back to the right instead of left!
got up early this morning and prepped and painted the firewall, will prep the tub saturday for paint and if all goes well i should paint it sunday before church!
well i got the tub painted today, the wearher was good but pretty windy outside... nothing that the water hose sprayed allover the ground wouldnt fix. the water really held down all the dirt and dust. once i untape it i will take some pictures and post before , during and after paint. gonna prep the inside of the tub next weekend and spray the u-pol raptor in the tub. i have used u-pol many times and think for the money it is the best.can hardly wait to start turning the bolts to the right!
no i did not use nason clear, kinda went on a budget on this one and just went single stage fulthane. as far as tinting the raptor i decided against it and will keep with my origional vision of mono-chromatic all blue paint work trimmed in black including the liner.
