D30 axle seals

my front axle is leaking on both sides, there is a great write up for replacing the passenger side seals, but how the do you do the driver's side? pull the carrier out?

Yep, thats how its done. Pull the axle, remove the carrier, and use a long brass punch to knock the seal out from the driver's side. Tap a new seal in and replace everything.

When removing the carrier, lay out a clean piece of cardboard, and put all the parts removed on the cardboard in the exact order that they were removed. As long as you put the same parts back into the same places that they came from, you wont have any problems with having to set the shim distance on the ring and pinion. 1 washer or bearing cap installed upside down can create problems so, heed the warning.

Here is another alternative no carrier removal.

Loks like a bit of rig to make but seems to be effective.
