finally did it. frame swap

Started about 2 yrs ago. Found 92 and let the fun begin. I patched the frame back then. Both rear shackle areas were rotted. Then last fall found out front frame near steering box was shot. Wow was it bad. Through a patch at it and it made the winter. Now the throw out bearing is going. Gotta drop transmition. Frame is so bad not sure I could put the transmition support back on. Decided to find another frame. CL is wonderful. Found a Penn. Frame. Small amount of rust. Can deal with it. Will post pictures soon. Check out the old thread to see how I got here.

I tried to keep budget around $1300 we will see. Frame was $600. Came with motor and front and rear axles. Swapped the motor for repair work on Mr 4 wheeler. Gonna sell axles recoop some $. I have all new spring bushings, motor and tranny mounts, and new body mounts. Needed new fenders so I got flat fender kit from ccfabs.com. cant wait to weld them up. Gonna be fun. Oh yeah not to mention the clutch kit I bought. This is my driver. So hoping it wont be off the road long. Post pics. soon.

Been pretty busy lately. Almost got the frame ready. Decided to raptor line it. Still need to get my yj to a buddies house to start the tare down. He has a much bigger garage and way more tools. Hopefully get frames sprayed this weekend. We will see.

Yeah just checked yours out. Looking good. I plan on using my body. So hopefully less work. Would love to do the 8.8 swap also. Not in the budget this year. My frame is all prepped and plan on spraying the raptor liner on it today. Will take pics.

Start tearing her down now. try and take pics as I go. I decided to put the side sheet metal for fender on inside of tubes. thought to show off the tubes a little more. what do ya think. will get a pic of them painted. not gonna put them on yet no sense. just gonna take them back off. wait till the swap is done.

I got them from ccfabs.com. you can buy them welded up but I saved some $ and bought the kit. Welded them myself. Think it was only $140. For the kit. Cant wait to get the jeep on the road again.

I would suggest coating the inside of the frame with cavity wax.
The only dilemma is you need the gun and wax.
At the shop I work at we use wurth stuff. Good but pricey.
A local paint/body supply store should be able to help you. May even be easier to ask a local body shop to wax it for you. Your doing all the protecting outside the frame might as well do the inside too.

Sounds like a type of cavity wax. Wurth wax is black. 3m's wax is white. I like wurth's gun better. The wand is long and flexible and sprays in a full 360 degrees. Unfortunately the yj frame doesn't have a lot of access holes so the longer the wand(tube) the better. 3m makes aerosol cans but it only has a wd40 type hose on it.

It may not be the same stuff, but as Solar mentioned, Eastwood has an internal frame coating.

Finally got it back on road. Still something's to do to it. Think the fenders came out good. Only have to repair
2 body mounts. Hopefully get some good weather to enjoy going topless before summer is gone.

Didn't get as many pics as I wanted. Will try and upload some more. Buddy was picking on me saying we will be replacing the tub on it next year. God I hope not. Tub not the greatest, but hope it will last a while. Some things I did.
Better frame
Raptor lined frame.
Clutch kit.
Flat fender kit.
New body mounts.
New motor and tranny mounts.
Replaced front bearing on input shaft.
New front shocks.
All new synthetic fluids.
Valve cover gasket.
I know I am missing some things. Plan on getting racing seats and some used 33" tires off a friend of mine soon. Never ending. Gotta love it
