First off let me thank everyone that offers help. This is my first Jeep and I cant wait to get in done.
I have a 95 that had a 2.3 that was trashed two pistons with wholes in them and a spun bearing.
So I have it most of the way torn down now about to pull the body off of it and blast the frame and patch anything that needs it. My idea is to put a 1st gen 350 carborated motor in it with the chevy tranny not sure about the rear and front end was thinking about putting them in out of a k10 blazer will they work and how big of a pain will it be?
Welcome, a lot of resources here for your project.
In my case I did a frame off restore/SBC (Gen 1 - carburetor) conversion that sounds similar to yours. I used a NV3550 transmission from a newer Jeep with an adapter between the GM bell housing and the transmission. A Chevy transmission may be OK but I am not sure about what transfer cases work. I swapped in a Ford 8.8 rear axle (common install, well documented here).
The wiring for the Gen 1 carburetor engine was pretty simple to splice into the much stripped down Jeep harness.
I used the Jeep in tank fuel pump with a regulator to take the pressure down to carburetor levels.
I had a custom exhaust made that used rams horn cast iron manifolds feeding into a Y-pipe cross over under the transmission, dumping into a 3" exhaust with the muffler next to the transfer case.
Thanks that's what I had figured doing to the mounts also. Ok have a digital question and I have read a lot of different post but have conflicting info. I have a 78 k5 that I am planning on using the axles out of and whatever else I need also putting a 350 with a Chevy Tranny and transfer case question is what all do I need to convert the axles
I am not sure but I believe the Chevy transfer case can be married to the back half (output end) of the Jeep transfer case that would allow you to use the GM transmission with no adapters. The 44 rear end is generally thought to be a good choice but I don't know how the Grand Cherokee suspension is compared to the YJ. Hopefully others will chime in.
yea me too i need all the help and advice i can get lol... i think in the long run it will be a better choice than the chevy front and rear end for the app i want to use my jeep for i want to drive it not haul it lol not sure if i could get it road legal with the chevys. i also found a ax15 tranny i can get them both for $400 as long as they r good i think that is a fair price..
