I am doing a SBC conversion and find that my air cleaner of choice (in addition to all the other choices I made along the way) results in my air cleaner too close to the hood.
Has anyone removed the hood center brace? If so did you do anything to stiffen the hood without it?
I'm simply using a 2in filter on mine, had to trim the stud to get clearance. Im running a throttle body though so most likely later on i'll remove the little spacer piece that goes between it and the air filter so i can run a 3 or so inch foam filter.
Anyone try to pull a scoop or louvers in the actual hood rather than putting on a secondary piece? Without a die and press louvers may be pretty tough but I can envision a relatively simple process to form a scoop but t may need material added due to the pull back on the leading edge.
I would think that the way the hood is designed, if you tried to "stretch" louvers or a cowl style into the hood, the sides are just going to buckle. Just my 2 cents.
I have done a lot of bodywork in my time with Jeeps, and trying to change a flat panel without heat to make it expand or a die to press it, is going to be near impossible.
I believe that a custom built hood is in your near future.
