So up until this point, I have been wheeling all over with my axles Open/Open.

Figured its time to step up the game just a little and prepare for the future.

Stage two is slowly coming together.

I have all of my gears for the ford 8.8 swap and to re-gear my front D30.

Just have to buy the last $250 in 8.8 swap parts then find the time to start working on it.

Anyway,
Couple of weekends ago I had got off work on Saturday night, and took apart my front end. Got up early to install my Aussie Locker in the front axle as well as G2 Chromoly front shafts.

Which then lead to this: Yes, my YJ (even unlocked) has been more places than either of these two JK's, including the Rubicon I'm stacked on. Both have about 3-4" lift and are on 35's.

More to come!

I have a eaton e-locker in the 8.8 but the front stays open! I'm worried the d30 wouldn't fare or well with 35's and a locker of any sort

There are a lot of guys running the D30 locked with 35's. The rear D35 is the ticking time bomb, which India has addressed. I think it will hold up fine.

Dixie, I have upgraded to chromoly shafts in the front. 10 yr warranty from G2.
Not scared of anything. Lol

I'm mostly scared of the D35. Seeing how I tend to put stuff to the test.

Oh yeah I know people do it, but it's not for me. As far as the d35 yeah it's garbage we all know that. Hints why I have a 8.8.

Now that 10 year warranty sounds nice! I'll look into them

Now, I will agree that depending on gear ratio, and type of terrain, that perhaps a lunch box locked D30 may not suffice. Buuut Im all about the stages of building and pushing it until I need to upgrade.

I wheeled my Jeep harder when it was Open Open, the front locker just makes it seem to take stress off of wheeling so far and makes obstacles easier.

Time will tell though!

Going to start on messing with the 8.8 swap, and figuring out SUA leaf spring flex and shock travel soonish. I think I can get it to flex more and stay SUA. I know that I am limited in down travel of my shocks right now front and rear and when Jeep is on bump stops I still have 4" unused up travel of the shocks in the front for sure. Didn't crawl under the rear to measure.

Added some 35s today.

Have a lot of work to do upcoming to make the Jeep actually work and the lift kit and leafs perform how they should. Not to mention the 8.8 swap and re-gearing to 4.88s.

So don't make fun of my flex (or lack there of) yet! lol

This corner was already bent from my 32" JK Rubicon wheels and tires.

So I ended up the day with this, since they have been sitting around for about 6 months now.

Took it out for the first time with the 35's on today. Much to my surprise after beating it up for a few hours it wasn't the front axle or the driveshaft that gave way. It was my input shaft for my transfer case.

Here is the carnage:

Same spot that I broke an axle shaft on last fall. Same spot I've watched many people try to get up locked front and rear and not make it. I've made it up several times when its been dry, but today there was no way. No one made it up except a giant truck on 44's and rockwells.

So I got lucky last night and found another NP231J out of another YJ. Only down side was that it was for a 4cyl and had the 21 spline input instead of the 23.

So today I pulled both cases apart and looked over everything and put together one. Good news is that now I have some spare parts!

Nice build! Your jeep looks kinda like mine. I also plan to do the 8.8 in the rear and 35s but I'm not sure what to do about a lift kit

Well, here is what I found about cheap lift kits, I.e. Rough country and the design of the spring packs isn't made to flex and work like say OME, RE, BDS.

The springs have been noted to be shorter in lengths than what they need to be. The way they have the packs clamped together is too tight. Their bushings wear out fast, and the springs don't have a military wrap. (Well they have a 4.5" kit now that does, but it doesn't look like it will flex and move like it needs to for off road flexing and crawling)

I hear ya. You will figure it out. A buddy of mine is running revolvers on the shackle end and z boxes on the frame end. Flexes great. Something to consider.

I have read too many bad things about the revolver shackles.

What I really want is coils.

So maybe eventually I'll go with the pro comp pn: j10517

I bought them from e-auto grilles on eBay. But they use the smittybilt instructions.
