jeep cuts out, electrical problem.

my jeep has been cutting out. it just quits running for a second or 2 then runs again. when it happens the volt meter goes to zero. running a HEI so its not the ignition module. seems like its a loose wire somewhere, but where?? was hoping someone had an idea where to start. battery cables are new, added extra ground from motor to body so I know thats not it.
jeep is an 87 with a 4.2

Hi...did u ever look at the starter relay connections? It's on the fire wall, passenger side of engine toward the bottom. The same thing happened to me except the jeep eventually quit running while driving because the wire broke off the main stud. It was very corroded. At the time I didn't know what it was till I had it hauled home.

I cleaned the connections on it when I replaced the battery cables. cleaned the fire wall connector this morning and it seems to be running good. maybe that was it. if not I guess next would be the ignition switch, not looking forward to that one, its a mother to get to.
