hi everyone, i want to put a lift on my wrangler, im deciding between rc 2.5 inch suspension lift, or rc 4 inch suspension lift. what do u guys think. I've heard that if i go with the 4 inch lift i have to do mods. like rear end and front gear box, drift shafts, break lines. is this true?????? can someone send me a list of mods that i need with the 4 inch lift. I've owned the jeep for years, and now wanting to put some money into it. just dont have the knowledge just yet. trying to learn. thanks guys.
If you are looking for 31" tires go for the 2.5" lift. Not familiar with the brand in your question. 33" tires go for the 4". Not all lifts are created equal. Some lift springs can sag sooner than later. Avoid aluminum axle shims. The 4" lift will probably require a slip yoke eliminator for the transfer case. If so, go Super Shorty.
Remember, the bigger you go the less useful 5th gear will be until you regear the axles.
The gearing issue depends on your tire size. Most lift kits will tell you what you need if they do not include all the parts. But each Jeep is different ... for example, my RC 2.5" lift said extended brake lines were not needed and so it didn't include any in the kit, but I did need them, as well as a TC drop. However, some guys have been able to install the same kit and didn't need them. So it is best to do some research and see all that 'May' be needed so you can add it without the surprise or $$-shock which so aptly fits the J-E-E-P acronym. There are lots of posts about the pros and cons of different lifts.... this for example: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f218/yj-lift-reviews-25156.html
Hope that gets you on the right track and helps. Keep on Jeepin'
...BTW, I am happy with my lift, (cost, installation, and performance).
The shaking is some other issue other than your YJs top speed due to the gear ratio. If it was the gears you would have to peddle to the floor and be going the same speed
I have the BDS 2" with 1" shackles and tube fenders and I run 33x10.50x15 tires and they only rub at full flex. The 2" would easily clear 31" tires with no problems. BDS has a lifetime no questions warranty and the ride is excellent. I am running a T-case drop until I get my SYE.
If your hitting mudholes, you need clearance and not so much flex. I have the fabtech 3.5" springs and 1.25" shackles on 35s. You will at least need to relocate your brake lines and a transfer case drop for the 4". I run a tc drop and I only get vibes around 75 mph. I definitely recommend the fabtech springs. They are military wrap and ride awesome. I think I got mine on Amazon for like $300 shipped. RC springs tend to sag and often don't give you the advertised lift height. Just my .02
