My 1988 Yj Build/Mod thread

Well let me get everybody up to speed first, I bought a 1988 YJ a few years back its my first jeep, it had been garage kept over the years and well maintained for the most part, well I had heard about it through a family friend that the guy might sell it for 3000 so I went up and found him, to my surprise the jeep was in pretty good shape and practically no rust just a few small spots here and there but not to any concern, he told me if I could have the money by 5 pm the next day he would sell it to me, I came back at 2pm with money in hand and the look on his face was priceless, he wasn't expecting me to be back and he honestly didn't want to sell it but he kept his word and I drove out with the jeep, so now 2 years later im finally starting a build/ mod thread since some of you have told me that I should, and or slacking on it lol, so here it is not much has been done just some small mods and fabrication, any input is appreciated thank you,

-Tim

Not long after I had bought the jeep I noticed a lack of power it is a 4 cylinder so I expected it to be sluggish but not like how it was, I took the motor out and to a speed shop in town to have it bored out and cleaned and the head completely redone well I found out I had only been running on 2 cylinders so I put 700 dollars into having the motor bored cleaned head rebuilt, crank cleaned and reworked, and a new cam, along with the entire rebuild kit, I picked it up when the block and head was done took it to my dads garage and immediately started putting the kit into the block within one weekend I had it rebuilt and running once again, I noticed a considerable difference

exterior

I had installed chrome grill inserts but with a harsh winter the chrome was peeling pretty bad so I cleaned and painted them

The top

when I bought the jeep two years ago it had a new bestop on, well I like being different so since there aren't many jeeps around here in Indiana with half cab tops I decided to go that route and I must say that I love it

The Interior

when I got the jeep it was stock on the interior no center console and the seats were all shredded up eventually my drivers side broke so I had to use a ratchet strap to hold it on, well I went and got 2 new seats out of a 2001 freightliner only the drivers side is replaced hoping to do passenger side this weekend

The jeep also didn't have a radio when I bought it so I made a mounting bracket and installed one, along with installing my cb

so as some of you have noticed the door handles on the inside like to break, so I made my own out of paracord and I wrapped my grab handle on the dash to match

Looking good! It all starts with a few basic mods then becomes an obsession
