My 94 YJ Project

Since lots of others have put their project pics in here I thought I would do the same.

I got my 94 YJ about 4 1/2 years ago, and I have done a lot to it so far. Mostly everything I have done so far has been more cosmetic, and now that I am almost done with that part it is time to start to work on the performance part. If anyone has any suggestions on things please feel free to post them. This is not an everyday driver, so I just have fun with it. Seems like I come up with a new idea about everyday anyways.

Well here is what I have done so far.

This is pretty much the YJ stock. I did add the front bumper and nerf bars to it. I didn't think to take a picture of it before that.

Next I installed a 4 inch rough country lift kit, and added 33x12.5 tires.

After doing the lift I didn't do anything to it for a couple of years. Everything else on here has been done over the past year.

Next I ordered some yellow Durabak bed liner paint, and painted the exterior of the Jeep. Here are a few pics from that project.

After finishing the paint job I mounted some Hella window lights, and bigger fender flares to work with the bigger tires.

Next I installed some yellow/black seat covers

Next I decided I needed a CB, but I wanted to mount it over head. I went to Lowe's and got 1x1 inch tube, and had a friend weld it between the roll bars. I then mounted the CB to that.

This is what it looked like after I painted it.

It limits the number of pictures so I will continue this on another post.

This just continues the previous post.

I next mounted a GPS system to the same bar.

I decided I didn't want the back seat, and removed it so I could have more storage.

Somewhere during all of this I painted my front bumper and nerf bars black. I also installed a half top, light bar, and 4 KC lights on the light bar. During this time I also painted the Hella, and KC rock guards yellow (where the white was). Here are a couple of pics.

And this brings me to the latest part of the project which I did today. I decided that I needed more black on the YJ so I decided to paint the front grill black.

Hopefully in the next week or so I am planning to paint the interrior with black Durabak bed liner paint (already have the paint).

I got some yellow LED lights, and still debating what to do with them. Right now I am leaning towards mounting them in the cab so I can have a light in there. I will probably order some more and make them rock crawling lights.

I am also hoping to get the thing re-geared. Right now it is still factory, and really drags on the hwy. I am planning to install 4.88 gears, but it will probably be a couple of months before I can do that project.

Sorry for the long thread, but if anyone has any ideas please feel free to comment

I am sure you can see the Compass (I needed something with decent gas mileage.) in some of the pictures. I recently traded it in for this 2010 WK.

It looks so much better w/the tubular grill guards and the step bars painted black! I would've went with pocket flares but your choice looks gr8 too. Good job!

I got two gallons, but I probably could have used a third. I was able to get three coats on with the two gallons. It goes on really thin, but holds up really well.

I had to sand off yesterday where the "Jeep" goes on the side, and had to use a lot of elbow grease to get it off!

I only got one gallon for the inside. I am hoping I got enough. However I was just at their website and it looks like they are also selling it by the qt now.

Thanks. It looks really good. Mine is already done inside in black and I'm thinking about the smooth Duraback in blue for the outside.

Does anyone know if you can spray the Durabak bed liner paint through a paint sprayer?

Thanks I would rather do it with a sprayer! Did he run it straight out of the can or add some thinner or something?

What kind of paint is the black on the fenders and grille?
Is it holding up?. I'm doing a restore and am thinking of using the smooth durebak as the primer.

It is just black auto spray paint I got at Lowe's for $3. For the most part it is holding up, but I need to put another coat on it. I only did one coat, and I can see a couple of places I missed.

Since I painted it, I have been off road with it, and we had two major storms. It has held up fine through all of that.

I found it on ebay of all places. There was the guy that sells them. It was right around $200.00. I was looking for a cheap way out, and for the most part I like it.

I am thinking about getting some diamond plate sheet metal and covering up the back bed part of the YJ. Then find a way to seal off the top to it. It has a problem that when it rains really hard that some of the water will find its way into the cab where the back and the top meet up. Other than that I have no complaints with it.

You do need the original hardware for it to work though.
