I am building my first jeep. It is a 90 YJ. I am starting from ground up. I have everything stripped and am down to bare frame and tub. I want to do this right so any pointers would be greatly appriciated.

I am wanting do have a daily driver but want to be able to do so crawling aswell. I am looking at the 4in rough country suspinsion not sure if that is what i need or not. I am wnating to run 35" tires. Not sure if a SOA is the way to go. But like I said this is my first and you guys have all been there so I ask what is the best route to take. Thank you for the replys

What is your level of mechanic skill? Can you do fab work and do you know how to weld? What is your budget? What motor and trans do you have? Are you planning on doing axle swaps, at least the rear?

We are not avoiding your questions we just need a lot more information to go on.

For example you mentioned going SOA. Well that involves a lot more in fab w2ork and welding then just bolting some parts on.

So we really need to know more about you and your rig. :)

i have no limitations when it comes to mechanic ability. I can weld anything. My off road experiance has been limited to my rig. I have no fear. My budget is flexible but want to stay within reason. My problem is no patience. I have a great contact here local that i have bought several items from and soon will purchase 8.8 from him when one becomes available. His jeep is freaking awesome and and great template for what I am wanting to do. I want lockers. Was thinking of chevy 14 bolt and dana 60 not sure. Runing for now the stock 4.2 and looking for AX-15 tranny. Hope to but something bigger maybe chevy small block but that will be later. Right now I want to be driving my jeep and playin in the rocks.

Lol no patience ... That sounds like me lol I'm also building a daily driver that I plan on taking to Moab someday soon, my jeep I'm on now is my sixth yj, sense you have I'd to bare frame I'd start with a sandblasting or a good scrub with the wire wheel (if you haven't already) then I'd reinforce the problem rust areas then I'd powder coat it or under coat the crap outta it. Good luck bud and you should make a build thread to we like to see the builds develop.

There are several of us who did ground up builds on here, you will find alot of them in the builders section. I'd do alot of reading before you decide on anything, for instance....a chevy dana 60 is gonna be more trouble than its worth trying to swap into a yj chassis. A Ford one will all but bolt in, is stronger, and work with your current 4.2 or the later model chevy stuff....and all the ford stuff.
