Ol' Gloria Build Thread, Slowly

So......

A little back round, this is my first Jeep, but not my first project. My wife bought her about 3 years ago as a coming home present when I got back from Afghanistan. The jeep was in decent shape body wise, and mechanically ran strong. I started by replacing all the seals, ignition, starter, fluids, etc. Been my daily driver for a 3 years now.

The crappy street radials finally are cooked, and now I'm ready to start building.
This is going to be a slow build as I get time and funds to add and modify.

Some plans for the future are Lift, Wheels and Tires, Body and Frame Restoration, 350 swap, dana 44 swap.

I started the lift wheels and tires yesterday. Back half is done.

When dropping the skid, I realized that the previous owner jacked up the nuts on the inside of the frame and rigged it with 2 studs coming down instead of in . I'm picking up flat stock and repairing the frame the right way today and fixing it right. Will post pics as it continues.

I plan on getting a good amount done this weekend. Assuming my Ruff Stuff 8.8 kit comes in, the rear end will be mocked up. I also want to start some of the body work...paint etc. I am not sure if I will pull the motor out of the old frame. I may wait a week and get the tub cleaned up first and coated.

I would def paint it motor-less and paint the engine compartment too, but I would clean the tub up and get it ready for paint, paint the whole thing then deal with coating the inside. I think I read it right Im going to do the paint and body when I go to pull my motor between swaps, get it mocked and then paint

It looks good so far. I can't wait to see more pics. Posting the picture of the rear done and the front not done yet was great. It really makes a great comparison. I'm in the 1st stage of making sure that everything is mechanically sound before I move to the lift stage. Good luck with the build! Thanks for serving.

blakeq63, thanks for your service as well.

So here are the pictures from the frame repair, and the finished product. Notice the mismatching wheels and tires? When will they arrive?

yea, slowed me down quite a bit, however I would rather do it right then just rig it up. Next summer body and motor are coming out to do a complete restoration on the frame, I cant wait for that.

I guess we have a couple things in common. I am currently deployed and will be coming home very soon to a YJ that my wife got for me while deployed as well. Since she got it, she had a lift put on it and 33" tires. Can not wait to get home, think about that thing everyday. I see you are from the DC area. My family and I will be moving there in February. I may PM you when time gets closer to get some general info of the area if that's ok? By the way, your jeep is coming along good, looks great!

I can't believe the difference those wheels and tires make! Absolutely great looking machine and looks brand new. If you end up making the inside look like the outside its going to be the gold standard for '93's. Dont stop this thread.

When you get down to your frame, if you are going down to bare frame. I suggest checking into having it powder coated. I had mine sand blasted and coated for $375.00. Just a thought of you go that far.

Your jeep is looking awesome and as others have said. Thank you so much for keeping this country safe.
