Project 88 "Little Kid"

I am finally around to starting my slow build. This is my first Jeep. A little history. It is an 88 YJ 2.5L 4-Cyl, 5 speed. My Fiancee bought the Jeep for me for a Valentines Day present last year. After having it for a few months is when it all started. There were several issues that started with the motor. I ended up buying a remanufactured engine and installed it. Drove for about 200 miles and coolant statred mixing with the oil. Come to find out there was a defect with the engine. New engine sent out and installed. Engine is doing great. Driving home from work a week later and break pedal is extreemly hard to press. Changed out power break boosted and master cylinder. All is good for now.

Cheap and easy mods

After looking for some time I have been wanting to do some mods. So far have done the paracord mods, bedliner the hood and grill, installed Smittybuilt security console and relocated the radio to it, installed sound bar, Trail jack mounted to the hood, and removed the front and rear track bars. We are finally underway. Tons of work left to do.

Welcome! I just got a YJ myself. The adventure has began. Love the touch with the paracord. Well done. I also need to upgrade my master cylinder. Which bed liner did you go with? That is next on my list while I wait for new carb and HEI.

It looks you got a good project started and a very good fiancée lol. Did you happen to take off the grill when lining it?

I just used the Rust-Oleum Truck Bed Coating in the rattle can. Sanded the area lightly with 220 grit sandpaper, washed it off with Dawn dish soap and a green sponge.

I did pull the grill completly off. I found that it was much easier to get it all coated. I plan on changing the color soon so I wanted it all covered.

There is a write up on here somewhere on the paracord stuff. It is pretty simple. you can even get kits at Walmart that come with instructions on the knots.

Hey Geoff, the jeep is looking great. Have you been out on any runs yet? Let me know when you want to go out.

SV Offroad is actually doing a moderate trail out in Bisbee Junction tomorrow. I plan on doing a chimney rock geocache trip up in Tucson in the near future with my dad, He has a lifted Liberty and want's to do an easy trail.

Looking forward to seeing your rig.

Bill
