Project YJEEP (aka Nuthin' Fancy)

I picked this up in January 2012
1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ

First thing I did was to take off the 33's and those UGLY wheels.

No Passenger seat or slides

4.2, Peugeot BA10/5, NP207, D30cad, Model 35

I stripped the interior

2 rust spots,
Small

and a Large one that I patched by welding in some 14ga sheet

I tried an MJ bench seat, but too much fab work to make it fit

So I used a couple leather seats from an S Blazer

*I did the Nutter, removed the computor, related items, and rebuilt the carb

She ran GREAT after that, but the 4.2 sounded like two skelletons doing it on a tin roof!

Time for some upgrades!!

92 4.0, 98 AX15, 99 NV231

92 4.0 w/ harness and computer

Same engine cleaned up, resealed, and painted

Pulling the 4.2

Something is missing!!

JEEP JUNKIE JAIL!!

4.0 going in:

Held in by a block of wood, waiting on trans/tcase install

Modified 94 YJ clutch master cyl to fit external slave clutch system

I had to cut the tcase shifter bracket into three pieces and weld it back together to fit the wider transmission

My notes I used while mating the 92 engine wiring to the 87 body wiring

Some of the chages to the body harness

Wiring done! XJ air filter housing and throtle cable.

Three hours of work to pull, free up, and reinstall the windshield hinges

I finally took her home late March 2012

On the road just South of Warrenton

Got Nuthin' Fancy some new shoes and a Summer Ensemble

Now I just need to get her out on the trail!!

Nuthin' Fancy off road!

A great "Only In A Jeep" pic

She's been muddy a time or two

I built a rear bumper out of 2x4x1/4" tube, an old reciever, and the stock bumperettes

Mated a winch plate with Omega rings

Installed a CB, antenna, fire extinguisher, and power outlets

Pollished the windows

Prepping for the Monstaliner Fall 2012-Spring 2013

Before paint I installed a tailgate from a '86 CJ7

I did the engine compartment in Grey Chassis Saver to reflect heat away from the body.

I'm using Black Chassis Saver for a base coat. It stops and seals rust, and it is a very strong base coat. I did the whole Jeep in Black to give a consistant, dark color. Many different colored body panels can give the final colors slightly different tones, and I want the Dark Burnt Orange to be as dark as possible.

Hope fully in a couple weeks I'll get time to spray the inside and outside with the Monstaliner. I still need to scuff and Chassis Saver the roll bar and new windshield frame.

Spring/Summer 2013

Well, the front axle housing was bent and the front springs were sagged. I had a spare D30 with 4.11 gears and springs. I purchased an M35 with 4.10 gears, thanks 4x4eq16 and swapped away!

installing the 4.11 D30 axle assy and springs:

Fresh paint on the 4.10 M35 axle assy:

In!

Needed some pull power. Thanks Gulch Gear!

Solenoid mounted in the engine bay:

Installed some vinyl by Itchy Pig Creations!

She was ready for more wheelin' adventures!!! (as she was in June 2013)

But in March it came back off!

More to come...
