Rebuild 90 YJ! Oh boy all started over a flat tire. No Joke.

So, I use this forum all the time. Great Job GUYS!!! / Girls It's My time to give back. I've had this YJ for 12-13 Years. It was bone stock when I got it. It needed some serious love. So I rebuilt it way back then, because I refused to drive it unless it was lifted and looked cool Obviously!LOL

So at the end of this winter I got a flat tire. And wouldn't you know PROCOMP stopped making the Xterrain in my tire size Great tire by the way! It took me awhile to decide or find someone that may still have a new one laying around. No such luck. Then it just snowballed from there....................Here's some before pictures. I wish I had the ones 12-13 years ago. (It was a piece of SH@T)

I ground down the whole frame.............I was so amazed. This Jeeps lived in New England its whole life and the beach every weekend. All I ever did in the past was spray bedliner in a can on it. It defiantly worked! No major Rot.

...........As I was taking it apart. I decided to send out all my hardware, diamond plate, windshield frame, wheels, and hinges........... etc to a real powdercoater. 5yr salt rating. It took 5 pounds of powder just to do the 5 wheels.

I finally decided on a tire. 36x12.50r15 Super Swamper. I really wanted a 36" Radial. Not many options that I could find in my rim size.

So my biggest decision was what color to go with!? I really always dreamed of changing the color from yellow. But everyone knew me by the yellow Jeep. It took me about 3 days to strip the Jeep down in my shop. Drove it to a local body (B&B Autobody) shop on a Saturday morning. I tore the jeep down myself. Most body shops hate painting old Jeeps! That's why if you want it painted. Take it apart yourself. I did most of the sanding and prep. I got there at 7:30 am an it was painted by Noon! Then I baked it 3 times!

I prepped my frame with Por-15 Marine Clean and Metal Prep in the paint booth. It drys so much faster at 200 degrees ; )

I think Yellow looks good on a Jeep. You are doing good work. Personally I would never put that kind of time into a paint job, I like scratches and dents too much.

Even if it was free? I did the body work. They supplied the paint, booth, and time. Just some Beer and Food. That's what Jeep friends are for!

I just recently did almost same thing, stripped everything down my self and removed absolutely everything inside and outside, was just and empty tub with a steering wheel, lol. it was a lot of time but it pays off in end result, i think on a jeep you have to remove everything in order to come out right, plus I pay very close attention to every detail. I was born in MA, and lived there up until 7 years ago (sturbridge) so I know how hard the salt and roads beat up a vehicle, your jeep looks great, good luck with rest of your build.

SmittyBilt Tube Fenders

Installed the Tube Fenders. Not a bad install. Lucky enough the bolts holding the fender to the tub all broke free.
