SOA and 8.8 help

My project has been on hold and I'm back at it. So, I figure I better get back on here and kept updating. So, I droped my d35 last night and have most everything I need to do my 8.8 swap and regear my d30. I have about 3-4 inches if spring lift right now. There's a wedge in the rear now(I bought the jeep lifted, the way it is). I was wondering if anyone can give me their opinion on going soa and ideas on what to do about drive shaft angles(front and rear). Also any ideas on shock mounts for the 8.8. I have new front and rear spring plates, ubolts, ect. Do I need to run different shocks to to go soa with my present lift? Also what about the transfer case? Any ideas on where to go with that? I am running out of money quick, and am trying to finish this up on reasonably low budget. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

With the spring over you will gain the width of your tubes and the thickness of your spring perches. It will total aprox 4", so if you have lift now.... WOW!! When I did my swap I just purchased shock mounts on e-bay for around $19.00. you will need a SYE and a new rear drive line unless you do a transfer case drop. (which I have) I was able to continue to use my stock drive line. On your shocks, you will be adding another 4" or so by going spring over. Do you have that much shock now?

also gain the thickness of the spring pack...normally 5 1/2-6 inches total is gained

That's were I am not sure if I should bother going soa. I don't want the thing to be HUGE and I'm running out if money. But like I said I already have the plates. Anyone have a ballpark number for sye vs transfer case drop and best bet on a driveshafts? I am 50/50 to going either way and eager to get it done(without hacking and cutting to many corners).

Your most likely going to need an sye and cv shafts, if your already lifted 3 inches that will put you at 9 inches of lift, I doubt you'd get by with tcase drop. But anyways ballpark figures, 360ish for sye, 200 maybe for the cv shaft. Then you'll need spring plates perches u bolts for the front so like 130 for that. And shocks all the way around. Prolly going to need longer break lines too. And IMO, it wont look right without bigger tires. I'd stick with sua, then later down the road go soa

U will deff need a SYE and Cv shaft. Ruged ridge SYE is like 200 i think. And Drive shaf u can get outa cherokee, or Buy a custom One for about 250, for a nice one. Tatton Drivelines is where i get mine. Here is a Pick of When i had SOA>

That's a good looking rig. What did you do about a proportioning valve? Also I'm regearing my D30. I got a G2 install kit, and noticed no crush sleeve? Do I not need one? Just shim the old one? I picked up a 98 ZJ for $350. Girl was going to scrap it. Thing is mint other than a blown out t-case.

Final(90% sure) decision I'm going to keep it sua. Just waiting on my spring mounts and a new diff cover and c-clip eliminators. What are some ideas for doing the e-brake cables?

Find a set off of a explorer cut them down and reuse.

I have a front locker, I believe they call it a lunchbox locker? It's a mechanical locker that replaces the spiders. When I bought the jeep the kid said it was a Detroit but the only one I can find that looks like it is a spartan. Can anyone tell me if they can be rebuilt? When I drive in 4wd it just makes a loud popping. So I assume it's not engaging, it's just skipping. What's my best bet?

Im in the process of the exact same thing. Im picking up my 8.8 on Saturday. I think I will be going with SUA and getting the lift kit from OME.

Just finished installing my 8.8 yesterday, besides hooking up breaks anyways. Used the 8.8 simple swap kit from ruff stuff, would highly recommend it to anyone else doing the swap. Every piece is super stout. Ford 8.8 Rear Axle Simple Swap (31 spline) - RuffStuff Specialties

I the same kit but I ended up using the 8.8 perches(saving the other perches for if I decide to go soa) but I was alittle confused about the shock mounts. Idk if they sent me the wrong ones but they were cut for the axel tube, but wouldn't work unless I put them on the top of my axel. Anyways. I got different ones. I'm just about done with my swap. Just waiting on a new 4.10 ring and pinion for the 8.8. And for some reason my D30 wasn't set up right from previous owner. The pinion was skipping on the ring. Not sure what happend. It worked fine for a month. I thought it was the disconnect messing up. I got that working mint. That's when I found the pinion had tons of slop. It has a lunchbox locker in it seems to be working fine. I believe it's a Detroit EZ locker.

The shock mounts that come with the ruff stuff kit are a lot smaller than the stock ones, way tougher built just shorter in length. I believe it was to get them up and out of the way unlike the stock ones that hang down so low. I will most likely end up having to get shorter shocks, as the ones I already had will bottom out with the new mount locations
