Well im gonna start a new thread specific to the motor and future plans. I have a lot of pics. This is going to be a 6.0 vortec motor/ Gen 3 ls motor. A turbo 350 transmission and tcase is still a little bit unsure but hoping to go atlas 2.

This is great. Just curious as to why you are going to use the turbo 350 tranny?

The turbo 350 is very short and i wanted to have as long a drive shaft as possible. THey are cheap and can easily be built to handle the power. For budge reasons i am using a stock one for the time being and will keep it till i blow it up.

I have the 6.0 vortec which i payed $800 for it. I ordered headers for $333, the radiator and fan are going somewhere around $700 which i cant affoard right now. trans was $250, Stand alone wiring is $1400, transfercase is undecided but leaning towards atlas 2, motor mounts was steal i had laying around, a lot of grinding wheels and cutting wheels, flux, aargon, fuel pump, and just random odds and ends they ill have to buy and cant think of. And thanks for compliment on axles. I got bored of black sooo i sanded them down and turned them silver.

First of all I can't believe you bought motor mounts instead of make um

Secondly, just get a radiator from Champion and a Mark 8 fan....lots cheaper than 700 bucks

i was going to get the radiator from novak and the matching fan. you have a link for either of those things. The mounts were pretty cheap as well. I have very little time so it was nice to have motor done in less then a hour. its back out sooo i can get out the 3 manifold bolts that broke inside the block. I am going to use the cutting torch method

I love ambitious projects. If you bought a rad from Novak (the best most educational jeep site there is) than money is no object to you. My comments were going to be in the vein if money IS an object you could get away with dumping the Atlas TC and newer trans for a trustworthy Dana and a T-18...all, as you know, adaptable via Novak, to your vortec. I think the Atlas and over-digital trans are far-overrated compared to the old school...

What you need to do when you're done is post a .wmv file of how it SOUNDS cause that's going to be cool.

haha money is deff an issue for me. My problem is im tired of breaking shit over and over again. im saving my ass off and basically stripping my jeep of any none essential after market parts so i can affoard everything. the motor and stuff is a quick swap but the transfercase and the motor wirring harness will not be affoardable for a few months

Meant no disrespect my brother, I'm sick of breaking stuff too. If I saw a gm vortec for 800 bones I would go to town as well. Novaks got nice rads by the way. When I installed a V8 into another jeep the BIGGEST problem was configuring the cooling system because your jeep is going to get really hot. A steel 4-core worked for me but aluminum is the way to go. You might consider trans/oil coolers too. It's strange you say the wiring harness is $$$$---must be state of the art. Last one I installed was $150 but these were analog days---keep this thread alive, it's an exciting project.

I do have the complete stock harness with computer and everything and technically i could have it reprogrammed for about 150, my problem is i dont want to go through the ton of wires and figure out gauages, ignition, power and just all that stuff. i just want to do it right for once, i half assed things way too many times

So i have my special flex plate ordered which allows the turbo 350 torque converter to bolt up. The headers are ordered as well. All these parts will be here thursday. Cleaned the motor a little bit today and will probably paint it tomorrow. I have 3 broken manifold bolts that are broken inside the block and i broke an extractor inside of 1 soo i dont know where im going to brg it to get them out for a reasonable price.

Since my parts dont come in till thursday i started cutting all the perchs out from under the hood, sway bars, trac bars, steering box brace, the 3 inch tube cross brace and anything else i could find to cut off. Im stretching the steering box. I havent decided if i want to cap off the hole from the tube or if i want to completey remove that part and buy some 4x2 tubing and shift the where the steering box is now foward as far as needed and then use the tubing to hold it in place. Here are some pics

and i have some more pics that havent uploaded to photo bucket through my phone yet

While waiting for my parts to come in i started taking care of the steering. I need to stretch the steering box foward soo i did the chassie work, heres the pics.

New section made with steering box in proper place.

Put the double sheer high steerarms in so i could find proper place for my steering box.

Cleaning all the surfaces

I ended up running out of welding gas as well as running out of all my grinding wheels. Going to weld the newly made things in tomorrow morning

Looking good Jeepy!!!

I just bought my radiator from Novak. Definately the best one on the market. The mounting system is nice too.I have some pics on my build thread. I bought their motor mounts also.

We will have to keep in touch on our builds. I'm a little further than you, but I have a feeling you will be catching up quick! I'm not looking forward to the wiring...

Here is my build, stay in touch!

well i got a lot done today, the steering box is bolted in place and the chassie replacement is welded into place. I connected the other high steer arm and i cut them to size and welded the hiem joints in. If you look at the pics that bar going across is welded in which should act as a cross brace. On top of that i plan to use the extra tubing from the steering to add another cross brace which i will install at the end when everytjhing is in to ensure it doesnt effect anything else. I plan to weld in the trac bar mounts in tonight as well. I was able to extra the rest of the broken bolts from the block today by using a weld a bolt to it method. Here is some pics. And the main reason i am doing this swap is the fact that i was tired of the truck running differently every day and constantly having to adjust it. HP is nice but its not my main concern, I wont to be able to run at any angle and be able to continue running with out any worries of bogging down. It is multiport fuel injection so it will also be very efficient. if i was going to use a carb i would of just kept my stock motor.
2 pieces welded together and grinded clean, almost perfectly smooth and cant see where the parts join

mocked up and tacked in place.

Had to cut the top of the steering box which is out of a durango to clear the cross brace.

passenger side high steer on

steering box in its new home

the jungle gym is begining to grow. the angle isnt perfectly perpindicular but its 100xs better then it was. it could of used about another inch foward but i was right up against the front sleeve for the steering box. But there is no binding or anything

Im going 10hours round trip tomorrow to buy my competition rear fenders for when i stretch the rear for a nice big driveshaft. the motor and tranny should be in the truck by friday for good. I leave for college again on Sunday so there will be a big gap in my build accomplishment. when i go away the saving will begin to buy everything else. All the fabrication and hard work is done until i begin the suspension built
