Jeepasaurus build thread

So here I will be posting pictures and info on anything I am doing to my newly acquired 1985 CJ-7. I picked her up a few months back but i couldn't take her with me up to school. Finally I am home for a weekend to get started on some work. I will post some pictures later tonight and the rest of this weekend.

Plans and future plans will be posted as well! Hope you guys enjoy the thread....at least once there are pictures

I couldn't leave you hanging, here is a few pictures of how I got it.

So plan tomorrow is to lower the tires down to 33s and take the shackles back to stock and add the 4" leaf spring lift. I need the jeep to be able to drive safely on the highway.

Does anybody think a 6" lift with 37s would do well on a highway? Just wondering...if not I will go to 33s and 4" (has a 2" body lift on it too from the PO), got no problem with it; I just love the look of it right now.

Current modifications:

1967 chevy corvette 327 (I had year wrong if you saw my other thread. It is a 327 )

Dana 30 and Dana 44

4" Shackle lift + 2" Body Lift (Will be removed)

37" Mickey Thompsons (Will be removing...maybe?)

Here are pictures of any body related stuff that needs work. I have no skill with welding so I will most likely just have somebody do it for me. The Jeep was also previous rattle canned with flat back. This would be okay if the PO didn't paint over some rust.

I will be getting this rust removed and resprayed the same color for now. Eventually I will get it painted but for now this will work.

So I need some help my fellow Jeepers. The 327 doesn't like to start. The only time it starts is if the choke is fully open and we use starter fluid. If I close the choke like im supposed to and try it turns over but wont start. Do you guys just think the carb needs a tune up? Also the carb has an electric choke.

There is my other issue, I'm not the OO. The previous owner said Holley 620 or something but there is no such carb. Where on the carb would it say what it is?

There is a 620 cfm carb that holley makes so maybe he meant that, but if you guys know where I can find the number on one I will go check it asap.

Okay so we don't know what carb it is but we found that the choke diaphragm isn't moving. It isn't an electric choke, we think it is a vacuum secondary choke. There is no manual choke hookup anywhere. Any ideas? One of the hoses from a vacuum line was plugged by the PO.

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about and of the carb...maybe you guys will know what I have here:

Well we think the Carb just needs a tune at this point. Has some trouble starting but we have found it is a hot air choke. Also we swapped the 37s for 33s so I can sell my 37s.

Next time I am home we will do the lift kit.

A very cool thing happened the other day. The original restorer of this jeep contacted me the other day. He was interested in the tires I was selling and realized that it was his old jeep. I have some more pictures he sent me to add of what it used to look like. Now we can all see what four previous owners can do to such a beautiful restoration.

Anyways we are working out details to maybe have him re-restore the jeep back to its former glory!

This summer will hopefully be full of pictures but here are some to make you drool.

IMO,that carb is not great for off roading at angles. You could put the funds up for a off road carb or better yet fuel injection. But if funds are tight and the carb runs good when the jeep is warmed up, what I would do is either put a manual choke conversion kit or an electric choke kit on that carb. The choke on it now is a thermal choke and is supposed to have a tube going to the exhaust cross over in the intake manifold which more than likely your intake doesn't have. Your current choke will never work without this tubing. The electric choke is the simplest requiring no input from you once properly set. The manual choke is the cheapest and requires more time to mount. Make sure when you pull the knob out that you hold the throttle down as the idle step ups will cause you to bind and bend your cable mount. Hope this helps

Another thing you can loosen the three screws at the choke then you can hold the throttle open and turn the choke (the black part that has the word lean on it) . It should only take a half turn either way and the flap up top should open.

The jeep is actually being restored right now but I do plan on picking up an electric choke when I can.
