My Grandfather in Alabama found an old jeep trailer at one of his local jeep sales... Found this trailer for $550.. We plan on sandblasting it, getting all/most of the rust off... The previous owner painted it white and put like a roof thing on it (instead of the original rag/tarp) so we might take that off.. He also had an axle made for the trailer that will fit 5x4.5 wheels but I plan on keeping it original for awhile with the tires. I think it's going to look good finished, I might make a drained hole in it just incase water gets in... I'm debating on what color herculine, match the tan in the jeep or just all black?
I got a smittybuilt bumper the other and I believe it will pull this with some trail material (tents, sleeping bags, cooler, camping stuff) so I'm really excited about it..
Plan is to sandblast it.. Paint it black (to match my Jeep) and herculine the inside of it..
The guy at the sales place got it the morning before my grandpa went up there and the guy said there was already another buyer for it but said whoever comes up with cash fastest, it's sold.. So.. we are quick on our buys, lol.. Also the trailer hitch hook-up, the guy said was $60 but we made a deal if he threw that in for $550 we'll take it.. so here it is..
That handle is like an emergency brake for the trailer.. My dad said, I'm not that sure, I haven't been to see it yet.. 10 hour drive with stock gears and 33's will not happen lol so I'm waiting probably till the week before 4th of July to go up there..
We go up there every year for a 4th of July show.. Shoot fireworks off the dock into the lake, it's great.
that is a good find, I found one for auction at a local AFB and went to get it, it was $150 out the door....when I got there it was rusted really bad so I passed on it, around here they usually go for $750-$1000.
Thanks guys, and yeah if it was any higher I don't think we would've gotten it..
That is true about the khaki... but I don't know, I guess we will have to see.. Work in progress... lol
I do like how they have that top, it even has hydrolic lift mount so it is nice, but I think it will get in the way.. I am very excited about using this for a camping trip one day... Gonna look great behind the Jeep with our 17' canoe on top. Maybe the girlfriend and I will have a trip sometime so we can see how it works.
Hey guys, I've been searching a lot of offroad forums and found some guys with trailers and how they are set up.
We will put an ammo can, gas can, and etc. probably in the front and in the rear make a spare tire holder some how...
Still not sure what to do with top on this.. Maybe make a 3-4" high rack or something so it still closes and opens..
In far future I REALLY REALLY want one of these... Mombasa Car Top Tent I know it's not the best brand but the other are like $2,000 this one is $900.. It's not the direct link but I think it is www.roof-top-tents.com ...
They look really cool and I think it would be better to be OFF the ground when your out on the trails..
You know they have a race every year on the Rubicon trail in those things? They float them down the river. This is from JPMagazine -- just the first thing I found on Goolge.
The old WWII military trailers were designed to float. And, 60-plus years later, they still do kind of float. After getting lowered into the river while sitting in the trailer at the end of a winch cable, competitors get to bail water until everyone is feet wet. Then it is a 300-yard race down river. Only one trailer made it to the end of the race without sinking before getting pulled out.
We got the wheels painted semi gloss black... They look great we also started on some frame painting(primer) we painted the under side of the fender flares with some truck bed liner. I will get pics once I get out of air conditioning class.
Got the frame and accents painted!
We primed the frame with some Rust Preventer Red (not sure of the name, but yeah it's red/burgundy). Then we painted the frame with some original military OD green (spray gun was used for both of these).. I think it looks awesome!
Now all we need to do is find a spot for the tub, lay it upside down and start grinding all of the old paint off of that and get it ready for some primer/paint.
We did all the wiring, they all work! Hooked it up to my dad's expedition (cause we only had a trailer plug in for his, not my jeep (yet)) I have a video on my iPhone that I will put on YouTube soon and post a link...
Painted rim and lugs..
Both tail light accents.. I think it looks great... Love the black and OD green.
Hope you like it!
I will post the pics I have on my iPhone very soon!!
