They actually look the same, however the light is changing the look. I have bright white and it was super clean a few days ago, I was parked next to tall hedges so it looked like it was green!

Taken on my iphone, so apologies for the not-so-hd quality

However, it was a very heavy day today, and virtually every customer that I talked to complimented me on the Jeep and loved the look!

I also took it into town for a quick spin after I finished my deliveries, and every other Wrangler driver I went passed gave me a solid hand wave

My first Wrangler (I only ever owned Cherokees), so I guess I'm now part of the brotherhood :] hehe
I'm thinking I like that...please post a couple more pics if possible, I have one on order and dying to see actual pics

I think you mean; " Why Isn't " CG a color choice? I was wondering the same thing. The Jeep site and salesmen seem kind of behind the curve.

Commando green

Do you think that Commando Green will be offered into the 2014 model year? Since 2014 is the last year of the JK model before the redesign I understand. That and I'm retireing in 2014, I'd like to get the JKU Sport S in this color as a gift to myself.

Flat clear coat

I just did a quick google of this term, and it looks like there are several flat clear coats that can be applied directly over factory finishes in good shape. I think CG with a flat clear coat would be the cat's meow, and more of what I expect with a color of this name in the first place. Just don't see very many glossy camo jobs out there...

This is something I've done in the past to kill glossy paint jobs, but not on autos. I'm very interested in this topic for the Commando Green!

Ughh, I can't wait to actually see or hear an update on my CG JKU! I've just been sitting in Production Scheduled since right after I ordered on 8/16. Hopefully Monday when I check back in with my dealer; he's been very helpful staying on top of things for me so I can't complain about that in any way. I'm just out of patience as far as waiting for some kind of update/progress.

not sure if I should believe my dealer...
my dealer told me the ship date will be 9/15.
I ordered 8/24, and today 9/8 it is still "Production Scheduled"..
Don't know if I can have my Jeep shipment after one week on 9/15...
Any suggestion?

Just spoke with my salesman. Yesterday I was in Final Inspection, this morning the dealer system says it awaiting shipment. With a bit of luck I'll have it this week!!

Yep that is entirely possible, in part because production seems to be incredibly fast once it begins and in part due to the fact that the tracking info seems to be updated infrequently. My black jk went from Production Scheduled on Thursday in VOTS and D1 in Insight, to Paint in VOTS on Friday morning and loading on to railcar on Saturday morning in Insight. 2 days to move from scheduled in VOTS to shipping in Insight. VOTS still shows it in paint yet it shows as complete and shipping in Insight.

My commando green jk, ordered on 8/15 is still showing as pending in VOTS and D1 in insight with an estimated shipping date of 9/11 just a couple days from now.

The tracking info seems highly unreliable at nearly every phase, so I advise everyone to take it with a grain of salt and an extra side of patience.

Those pics above honestly pretty much sell me on the color. I'm not undecided on whether or not I like it any more...I do. Now do I want one? Hmm....

Yeah, it's pretty glossy in person as well The pictures are pretty accurate in terms of how it shines, but again, a little off-roading might take care of that

Thanks!

That's actually been my primary postal vehicle for the last 3 or 4 years. It's a '95 factory right-hand drive imported from Japan. Everything is in Japanese (manual, stickers, etc..), haha

Put a looooot of money into that Cherokee over the years. Just recently, I had to have the head gasket replaced and a new radiator installed.. nearly $2k bill :\

Well, I definitely want to get new tires. Some aggressive, all-terrain with something more than 2 Ply (which are what the stocks ones are). My route has a lot of rough areas, and my tires have to be excellent and extremely durable

My boss is also a Jeep enthusiast. He goes to shows a lot and owns a pretty decked out Wrangler as well. He has a grill guard he's going to sell me for about $150 (the list price is $600 for it), so that's the only upgrade I'm foreseeing atm

I'll keep my eyes and ears open for any suggestions tho! I'm still kinda new to upgrading as I never really considered it much with my older vehicles.

AS fof tires thinking about some Dick Cepek Fun County 2s. Any one on here have experience whit them? Looks like a good all around tire to me.

I'm totally sold on this color now. Thanks Frogger for the pics!

Now all I need to do is get a good price. I've decided on a 2 door Sport with the following options: Commando Green, Auto, S package, Anti Spin, Dual Top, Connectivity, Trailer Tow, Power Convenience, Tubular Steps, Alpine, Mopar Slush Mats, Side Air Bags. Pretty much loaded up sport! S package includes deep tint here in Canada.

Invoice is 32,131 and MSRP is 34,710.

My current sales guy says they don't sell below invoice! He offered me 32,500 for the order. Should I expect to be able to get better? Or is that decent? There is also a $2000 manufacturer rebate that is not included in that price this month. How do some people claim to get 5% or more under invoice?

Claiming you got 5% below invoice is easy. Actually getting it is a different story.

Crazy long post coming, all I can say is you asked for it!

Here is how my deal came about (6% below invoice). In early August, I figured how much a 2013 Jeep would cost me to order and I assumed I could easily get 2% below invoice by using Tread Lightly and getting dealers to compete for my sale. Before I contacted dealers by internet, I wanted to check out some of the options in person so I went to a nearby dealer to test drive. They didn't have what I wanted on their lot and when I asked them about ordering they were like a deer in headlights. Instead of working with me on ordering, they continued to try to push me on a vehicle that I did not want (trying to sell me a stick shift hard top after I told them that auto and soft top were non negotiable requirements). Other than getting to look at wranglers, see the various options, and take a test drive, this dealership was worthless to me.

Initially I wanted to try to find an end of model year deal on a 2012 so I took ~$2500 off of the 2013 price that I had calculated and sent that offer to about 25 dealers in the Houston area via email. About 20 of the responses I got were absolutely ridiculous:

"Buy this jeep at a special internet price just for you!"
None of the jeeps they sent me matched what I wanted and their low special internet price just for me was the MSRP Sorry dealers, you just lost my business because you clearly didn't read my email.

I got a few responses from dealers that told me that my offer was crazy and that they could never match it. That is a fine and honest answer. Cool by me.

One Internet sales manager responded to my initial offer by phone. He told me that he did not have a 2012 that matched what I wanted and he wanted to know if I was interested in ordering a 2013. Considering my previous experience with the dealer I visited when I asked about ordering, when this dealer initiated the discussion about ordering he immediately got my attention. I told him that I was hoping to find an end of model year deal on a 2012, but I would consider ordering a 2013 if the price was right. He told me that he orders tons of jeeps and is very knowledgeable about the ordering process. Then he dropped the bomb on me and said that he would sell me my 2013 ordered jeep for $400 below employee price. He gave me an out the door quote to drive it off the lot. I subtracted known costs (tax, title, license, $75 tread lightly administrative fee) and realized it was 6% below invoice.

At that time, none of the other dealers appeared to have a 2012 that matched what I wanted or wouldn't come close to the price I wanted, so I placed my order. The next day, I was contacted by another dealer. I told them that I had already placed an order. I told them the dealership and the cost. They offered to match the offer if the deal didn't work out in the end.

Long story short: those deals are out there. If you are willing to come to Houston I can give you the contact for my dealer and you can get the same offer (mention me and I'll get a referral! )

While 6% might be difficult or impossible to get in your area, know that you should easily be able to get 1-2% below and then get the dealers to fight for your business!

Good luck

I had pretty much the same experience as sasquatch except on Long Island NY so what he is saying is definitely true. They said the same thing below employee pricing. I think it all comes down to the ownership. Most dealers probably try to make money on every sale and disregard the internet where other dealers probably treat internet e-mailers and normal walk in buyers differently and use the below employee pricing thing to get people that will take the time to shop. I didn't initiate anything like sasquatch I just told them what I wanted and they were like ok we can do it at below employee pricing worked out to about 7% below invoice. Later on that day I put my $500 deposit down and ordered. Some dealerships don't want to be bothered others will go for the volume with the internet orders probably make a few extra sales a month and I imagine they get kickbacks from Chrysler for hitting certain volumes that makes up for any lost profit.

I didn't get the same we will drop everything and service you treatment I usually get at dealerships when buying a new car, but for what amounted to probably several thousand in savings I can wait around a bit.

Thanks for the long post Sasquatch! I would love to head down your way but I'm a bit far up here in Alberta, Canada. =D There are however 14 dealers within 50km of my place here in Edmonton. The dealership I've been going to I think is the largest one in the area so maybe that's why they won't go lower?

Should I try emailing around? I know some people are pretty adamant about getting at least 5% below invoice and for me that would make a huge difference. In the end I'd be happy with 2% below! No tread lightly here though sadly. Does the price I get make any difference for the sales people? Or is it the dealership or Chrysler that profits from selling at MSRP? My sales guy is pretty awesome, but I'm willing to go elsewhere for a much better deal.

Not sure if you can do this in Canada.... go directly to the fleet manager and order one. Typically they will sell at invoice or $250 above.

My pleasure. I think it can only be in your advantage to contact all of the dealers in your area, other than the annoying telephone calls and email spam that could follow for a while.

It is my understanding that the lower the dealer / sales person goes, the lower their profit and commissions are. I'm thankful that the only sales people I've met in person weren't really good at it, so I didn't have much compassion towards helping them put money in their pockets, but I can see how that could be a little bit of a factor for a considerate buyer when dealing with a great sales person.

Just remember that it is business not personal and they will never sell it below what they are willing to sell it for. So if they agree to your low price, they are getting enough money from the sale, otherwise they would say no. I know that is just common sense, but it is helpful to mentally remind yourself of that when negotiating, especially since you are obviously a considerate person having asked that question to begin with.

Edit: One detail I forgot about my negotiating:

My personal opinion is that I only need to go to 1 dealer in person for an initial test drive and to see the options. After that I prefer to do all of the negotiating through email and telephone because there is less pressure that way. When responding to my email, lots of dealers just wanted to get me to come in person and didn't discuss my needs or my offer through email. I figure they just wanted me to come in person so they can try their typical games. I didn't and wouldn't recommend wasting your time with those when they give you that type of response.

I placed my order on 8/15 and I haven't heard anything from Jeep, but at this point I suspect that my dealer didn't give them my email. My order showed up in VOTS on 8/20.
