I finally saw it on four new jeeps at the Fairfax, VA, dealership today... it's not a horrible color, but it's not exactly what I thought of when I first heard the name a few months ago.

I think it looks fantastic in the shade; but, out in the sun... not so much -- and I DEFINITELY don't like it with the matching top/fenders! That's just wayyy too much green for my tastes. It will really need a ton of black components to pull it off...

That said, I would rock it with pride if I had one.

Commando Green Purchased

Guys,

Boy, did I have an interesting weekend that I think will interest some of you. The Commando Green Sport jeep that I ordered arrived at my dealer Friday afternoon. Its a long story, but my dealer told me that I couldn't pick it up until Monday or maybe even Tuesday. I won't go into details and I understand their reasoning, but I was really disappointed and my wife and I were tired of sharing a car.

We decided to nose around and look at some other Wranglers at different dealerships. We found a CG Wrangler Rubicon at a local dealer. It had all of the features that we wanted. It also had extras including saddle leather, heated seats, and a dual top. We had no intention of buying a Rubicon but since it was the end of the month and the end of the quarter, we thought that they might make us a deal that we just couldn't pass up.

Let me comment briefly on the saddle leather. I have NEVER liked it. I don't like the mixture of the black and brown and I also thought that a Wrangler shouldn't come in leather. I also haven't liked the new Rubicon wheels when I had seen them in pictures. I don't know how to explain it, but the mix of the Commando Green color, the saddle leather, the black hard top, and the Rubicon wheels simply looks amazing. The saddle leather looks like it was made to be paired with this color. When we saw the Wrangler, we pretty much knew we wanted it if we could reach a price that we thought was fair.

I also have to add that the general manager hated my spreadsheet. (I'm the guy that created the 2013 Wrangler Pricing Spreadsheet.) When we finished negotiating, he said, "please don't share that spreadsheet with anyone." I told him it was too late and that I had posted it on the Internet months ago. The buying/negotiating process was brutal. It took several hours and I felt like I was beat with a stick. (Even though we had and used the Chrysler Affiliate discount and the $500 brochure rebate from the Jeep website.) My head was swimming with numbers and I was happy that I had taken the spreadsheet and a laptop with me to keep everything straight.

After completing the process of buying a new Wrangler, I've learned the following. 1. If possible, buy your Wrangler from Pat. If I had been closer to him, that is exactly what I would have done. 2. If you're not using Pat, know more about the Wrangler than the salesman and the manager. 3. Use the spreadsheet (or your own system to track numbers) and don't be afraid to walk away from the deal. 4. Check and recheck their numbers. I caught a math "error" that would have cost me $200. 5. If possible, see the vehicle you want in person. I would have never believed I would eagerly buy a Wrangler with saddle leather and Rubicon wheels, but here I am.

I'm posting some pictures of our new vehicle below. Also, I'm interested in selling the premium soft top that came with the Wrangler. It is new in box and I will sell it that way. I'm going to do some research and determine a price. I'll write up an official post and put it in the appropriate for sale forum sometime Monday. If you're interested in it, send me a PM.

Thanks to everyone for their help. Let the mods begin! (ACE rock rails are first on my list.)

A couple weeks ago when the first pics of CG with saddle showed up I was pretty nervous. I couldn't make up my mind if I liked it or not. Since that time I have picked up my Rubicon Unlimited from Pat at Fields Jeep. No pictures of saddle in a CG Wrangler have done it justice. Saddle looks so much better in person. In a much more richer looking color in person. I'm very happy with my selection. Also I couldn't be happier with my experience buying a Wrangler from Pat. If you live anywhere in the Midwest should think about giving Pat a call.

Awesome! I have the saddle leather in my Rubi also and I love it! The Commando Green is fantastic and I love how it changes all the time. I hope you love yours as much as we love ours. And thanks so much for the spreadsheet.

I got the saddle on my Sahara too and gotta love it. At first I was freaked out after seeing one of the photos on the forum but when I saw it with my eyes, I love it.

Picked her up Friday and immediately headed for a weekend of Rick climbing at the Grand Canyon! Here are some pics

BTW------ THIS COLOR IS WAAAY BETTER IN PERSON!!!!

Read the above line again!

I was really on the fence and didn't want baby poo or yellow-green. IT'S NOT! I was thinking that I wanted a darker green until I got it in the forest... It's perfect!

Awesome pics! Very jealous, mine has been sitting in the driveway. Busy with work. Vacation coming soon so hopefully I can put Rubi through the paces. Wish I lived somewhere like that!

So what did the first dealer that has the Sport you ordered say about your purchase?

I'll go ahead and echo what others are stating.

This color is way better in person.

I had my reservations, but they immediately went away when I walked around the corner and saw my Jeep. I picked it up on Saturday and have been driving it ever since.

That's why I've been so scarce around here. I spent all my free time installing all the goodies I pre-ordered. My Rock Krawler lift arrives today and I'll start installing tonight, then get the wheels and tires Thursday probably.

Anyhow, I absolutely love this color and am so glad I jumped on it when I did.

Actually, I sent the salesman an email and thanked him for his time and efforts in helping me. I tried to be nice about it but I told him that I had purchased another Wrangler because I had a deal I couldn't pass up. Maybe the dealership will read between the lines and realize that they need to prep vehicles quicker to not lose a sale.

If they delayed it, there may have been some damage in transit that they needed to repair. So, no matter what, you're better off with what you ended up buying!

That said, did you lose a deposit? Our dud they not make you put down any money when you ordered it?

Wish I knew exactly which Katzkin color matched that OEM saddle leather. Anyone know? I want to order that color seats for my Jeep.

I would look at the Jeep saddle in person if possible. The photos don't do it justice. Its a bit darker in person and it has a "pattern" to it. If you look closely, it isn't one solid color.

He didn't tell me there was damage but that is a possibility.

I did not put down a deposit.

Right on, well played! My dealer made me put down a $500 deposit, so I'm pretty much locked in to buy the one I ordered unless I find another one on the lot that I like better... it's all good, though, I'm pretty damn sure I'll love the one they send me!
