Next up, 4.5 AEV SC lift. I know what I will be doing tonight. Heck I want to start right now.
Congrats on pulling the trigger bud! So it begins...
Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

20 days away

My new JKU Sahara in Granite Crystal, to replace my 2010 JKU, is 20 days away. I would have gone with black again but seams like everyone around here is buying black ones so I want to be a little different and I will be the first to have a granite one in this neck of Canadian woods. Have $700 worth of dress up parts coming from National 4x4 includiing a bumper light bar and a BDS 2" lift from another source. For now, will be putting on my 33" Hancock's on black rims from my 2010. All accessories are black so I am having the dealership paint the Sahara bumper inserts gloss black as part of my deal. Will post pictures when all together. Can't wait.

Think I just created a new business Well I was going back and forth over 35's and a 3.5" lift or 37's and a 4.5" lift. The door sills will only be about 2 inches higher with the 37's. Holy crap, DTD means business! Just got an email saying my tires will ship in 24 to 48 hours
Sucker Punch,

Your gonna live the AEV lift... I test drove a AEV JK350 with a 3.5 yesterday and the handling was amazing. I imagine the 4.5 would be great as well. Those lifts are well built and make the Jeep look huge. Good luck with your build! Getting real anxious for mine to arrive.

Well...

I feel like I'm living a soap opera the past 24 hours... After talking to the wife and showing her how high the jeep would sit I couldn't stop thinking about the inconvenience for her trying to get in. My 37's and 4.5" lift are headed my way and should be here Monday, but I think I have 100% decided to go with 35's and 2.5 aev lift Once reality sunk in and I had it on order I felt kind of selfish getting the 37's. Don't ask me why. Just cannot justify the inconvenience for her. Going with the 35's and 2.5" lift will make it manageable for her to get in and out. Thanks to NorCalRubi and others for telling me I would be happy with the 2.5 and 35's. I am positive I will love the 35's. This is gonna postpone the install by a week or so, but I think this is the right decision for me. Gonna be tough to refuse those 37's when they show up on Monday

You made an unselfish and wise decision. I think the perfect combo is 35s with a 2.5" lift. This will also greatly eliminate all those potential problems that go along with a drastic change in a Jeep's geometry that a 4.5" lift would have brought with it. Bottom line is your Jeep will still look "bad ass." Looking forward to the after install pics.

Sucker Punch-

I also have been on the decision roller coaster with tire and lift size... And I don't even have my Jeep yet! I was fortunate enough to drive 3.5 lift with 35's yesterday. It's huge and badass... By not practical for my DD purposes.

My wife loves Jeeps and will be driving it during the week to work, as I have a company truck.
Yesterday... Getting into that 3.5 lift was something to get used to... I can't imagine a 4.5 with 37's.... Although the "Look" factor would be sweet!
I'm SO glad I'm going with the AEV 2.5 and 35's, this combo looks and handles great.

Thanks to NorCalRubi as well for his input. I personally am very comfortable with my choices and feel it's the right move. I think you have made the right decision, good luck with the build!

You'll LOVE it, SP! I didn't think going from 33s to 35s on Mike's jeep would be a big deal when I got his 33s, but it DEFINITELY has that look now! And I think all the girls will appreciate it more than you know, but won't even realize it since you were willing to change your decision for them.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I really appreciate it. I literally lost a little sleep last night thinking about it. I kinda got that guilty feeling and said, nope, not worth it. Got up first thing this morning... wait, did I go back to sleep? Never mind. I called DTD and Quadtratec (my two favorite places) as soon as they opened but of course they have both been shipped and it is too late to change my order - not their fault. I just have to return them and then reorder the new stuff. Can't wait!

The more I have been thinking about it today I am starting to realize how much more money I will be saving ... I mean, that can go toward other mods

Well done indeed, SP. I promise you will be happy with the 2.5/35 combo. My Jeep is bigger than anything else around here. It handles great and the lift seems just right in terms of proportion. I can't imagine needing more, unless I actually planned on attacking my JKUR's namesake trail here in Tahoe, but even then the 2.5 could probably handle all of that 10/10 rated trail.
My wife definitely pauses each time she climbs in, but she also LOVES the jeep now after saying for the past four months how much she hates them. She is now a Jeep fan. My two little boys can not climb into the Jeep without help, it is tall. You made the right call. Sleep well tonight, you will be very glad that you changed courses before it was too late!
Plus now you have extra $$ for the CJ mods!!!

PLUS....you're gearing issues just disappeared!! 4.10 with the 35's is plenty of power. I'm not a lead foot either, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the power and torque I have.

The RUBI X bumper is all set up for the AEV tire Carrier...

I have an AEV rear tire carrier being installed on my RUBI X... Attached is a picture of one I found on the AEV forum. This particular Jeep has BFG AT 35's and the AEV 2.5 Lift as well.

I'm doing the same deal... Just doing 35" KM2s instead of ATs.

Perfect. I'd been looking for a photo of the two of those mounted along with a pintler.

Well done!!!

Agreed... Where did you get the flag decal? I'm gonna do the same when mine arrives.

A little more data for you SP. I took measurements on my 2014 JKUR AEV JK350 (w/ ACE Rock Rails) 4.5 inch lift, 4.56 gear, and 37's yesterday. Tires are actually BF Goodrich A/T's (35.5" diameter with 30 #'s air pressure)(37x12.5x 17). All measurements in reference to ground. Bottom of rock rails -21.5", Top of rock rails (Where you would step)- 24.5", Bottom edge of door sill - 30", Top of door sill - 31", Top of Jeep - 78". My wife is 5' tall and she loves it. Also, for those who wonder it does handle better than my old stock 2010 JKUS. For what it's worth, I'm getting about 16.3 mpg based on EVIC (Synthetic oil).

Jeep looks SWEET! Have you thought about painting your grill insert red to go with the other red accents you have? We did it in blue on Mike's Billet jeep and it looks really good, in my humble opinion.

That's a great idea...

What type of paint should should I use for the grille?

Thanks RSshaw! - that is some great info. This has been a harder decision to make then I ever realized. It is gonna be tough tomorrow when I have to send the 37's back, but I think I am making the right decision.

I have modified my new order a bit. I do not plan on changing this order again. I'm gonna go with the 3.5" AEV SC lift with 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers with the level 8 zx wheels. I've been over on the AEV forum and got a lot of great info from some of the guys running different set ups. I feel like the 3.5 and 35's is a good middle ground between the 2.5 and 35's and the 4.5 and 37's. The 3.5" lift will also be a better platform to modify if I ever decide that I want the 37's.

Hopefully I can return everything and then reorder everything in time to get it installed 2 weeks from today.
