Well, I pulled the trigger today, got my TDY settlement from my last trip and I was able to place the order for a complete 5 wheel/tire package--any doubts I had about the appearance of that combo were dispelled when I saw a jeep on the dealer lot yesterday wearing the duratracs and similar wheels--fantastic appearance to say the least!

Ordered the MB72/33 x 12.50 x 15 tires for my 2011 Rubicon. I let them know I found the tires cheaper at another place and they matched the price...no questions asked. Ordering from Discount Tire Direct is absolutely a breeze--and the sales people extremely knowledgeable and friendly to boot! Now, I can't wait to get the tires in and mount them -- then on to get my Teraflex lift kit installed!!!

Merry Christmas!!!!

Here you go.. I know I promised these last week but with the holiday I got super busy, super quick. I haven't put the spare on yet because I was waiting for the daystar bumpers, which came in Saturday, so I'll work on that next!

Are the spare tire spacers needed for this setup?

I read on another thread that they were and ordered them. I haven't put them on yet but if they're not needed I'll update here and list them in the BST for a discount

I would expect they are. I have the same tires but with black rock wheels. I haven't yet mounted the spare because Black Rock sent one of my five wheels with the wrong bolt pattern, so I'm waiting for a new one. But I've already ordered these bump stops.

The new wheel will push your tire further out from the carrier, so the only way you wouldn't need new bumpstops would be if the new tire precisely compensated for the extra distance by being exactly the right amount wider. All by coincidence. Very unlikely.

Pretty sure I got it from Quadratec... unfortunately once I get the new spare on it won't be much use to me. I may list it in the BST since it's less than a year old.

You'll know when you mount the spare and the existing bump stops don't reach the wheel. I didn't think I needed them, I was wrong.

If you want them soon, shop around, Qtec is sold out / back ordered.

I got the bump stops... just haven't put them on yet. autopartswarehouse.com had them in stock.

Following up on the need for new bumpstops for the spare, it appears they are indeed need for the Black Rock D-Windows and the tire used in this thread (33x12.5R15 DuraTrac). Had my spare put on this morning, and you can see the gap:

Why is the extended bump stop necessary?

See the gap in the picture between the tire and the bumpstop on the tailgate? That's not good. Fine for a little while given that this is a lightweight 33" set up, but not long term.

While your wheel/tire is of course bolted to the tire carrier, the wheel still wants to pivot back/forth like a seesaw without proper bumpstopping. That's why the bumpstops on the stock set up make contact with the tire, and that's why you should get new ones to do the same thing when you change tires/wheels.

Did you guys have to cut the daystars down to fit? Or did they just simply replace it with no cuts?

Don't have them yet, but I'm expecting to need to cut them.

I really like the set up on this thread. I am a new Jeep owner (2010 Unlimited Sport) and i know nothing so far. I am relying on this website for everything. I stopped in my local 4 wheel drive shop, and we were talking tires and wheels. For some reason he was trying to persuade me to stay with the 17's that are stock size. He gave me an ear full of info that eventually lost me. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. I am getting tired of reading and i'm ready to commit to a tire and wheel size. I would love to just order the 33x12.5R15 GY Duratracts. Haven't picked out the wheels yet. Based on what i read here i'm gonna wan't to put on a lift of some sort. The daystar spacer lifts look simple and easy. Thanks for any info.

You don't have to have a lift. Wheels with less backspacing is all you need.

If this thread doesn't steer you to "the combo" nothing will

That clown just wants to make money.
Tires are cheaper for 15" rims anyhow.

Ive been talking to DTD. You have to hurry on the tread lightly membership for the $100 rebate.
Goodyear does not currently have one going -- bummer.

Worst case $1500 for 5 tires/rims is pretty good. The Duratracs are an amazing tire.

Thanks kjeeper10, for some reason i feel i need a lift. It just seems right for the jeep. Even if its just the 3/4 daystar comfort lift. Is there a certain number on the backspacing i need to know? 1 more thing where is everyone finding these rims at? Thanks again. Hopefully someday i will be able to give info back to some newby. lol

Here are the links with all the 15" wheel models we carry that are guaranteed to fit the JK without modification. Anyone of these wheels mounted with 33x12.50-15 tires and a mini lift is going to look great!

Duratracs In and Mounted!

The Bad A** Punkin rides again! Ordered my Duratracs from DTD on 24 December, got a call that they were being shipped on the 27th and they arrived this morning! I got them mounted this afternoon! I have to say the ride on these tires is considerably better than on the OEM Rubi tires. The 33 x 12.50R15's seem to be a perfect size for the 2 door. I think it'll look even better when I get in and get the Teraflex 2.5" lift installed.

Got them out on the highway up to 70mph, not a shimmy or wobble, better and smoother ride than with the original tires, just the right amount of road noise, not bad at all. Reset the threshold on the TPMS to match the 30 PSI I'm initially going to run, may have to take it down to 29 or 28 PSI to get best contact.

I'm saving the Rubicon wheels and tires to put on my son's Wrangler that he ordered on the 27th.

Thanks to Direct Tire for making this a painless modification to my Rubi!

Thanks, i am leaning hard toward the Chaos wheels. I talked to phone rep, he had me concerned about the tire (33x12.50-15 Duratracts) being a little big for the rim. Wanted me to get 10" wheels. He mentioned they will stick out 3 more inches on the vehicle, and says i need sensors in all 5 tires. I almost ordered but decided to call and conform sizing. I realize the tires may stick out a little, but that is a cool look i think. Also mentioned the wear on the tires would be quicker. With all that said, is there a concern? Thanks again this site is awesome.

Thanks a lot, now you have me waffling and changing my mind. I think I am going to go with the Level 8's now instead of the MB72's. I like how the face of the wheel is more flush to the edge of the rim. The level 8's come with the center cap, correct? Also, will the OEM tire wrench work with those bolts?

BTW, what is the word on the next GY discount for 2012? I'm sure they are having no problem moving duratracs with the interest they are drawing... How about TL? Any rumors or word on extending the discount?

And while we are at it, what do you mean by "mini lift"?
