I am guessing if I dont lift the difference in look from 33 to 31 are not that great, the tire is still agressive and I could still handle light trails, light mud with no lifting. once i got a lift I could eventurally upgrade to the 33's ? just looking at options. I am not good in a shope so i would prob. have to get someone to install the lift, and im not sure what that would cost.. also, would i need to get a special tire carrier for my larger tire? or will the stock 2012 one on my jeep handle up to a 33 inch with no issues?
Those are probably smaller than your stock tire. The Sahara and Rubicon both come with 32" tires, as do Sport Ss. So those wouldn't need a lift, but I wouldn't bother unless you're planning on going to smaller tires.

Just got mine and had them mounted up today. Really happy with the wide stance and look of the Jeep now. Thanks DT. Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Really? i measured, the wheels currently on my 2012 wrangler sport P225/75R16 which are no where close to that. my friend has 31's and his tire is like alot taller than mine, thats why im concerned, and that the 31's would be a better fit for me, based on weight, and other factors, people talking about having to regear to get any power in 6th gear. i have a manual transmission also. im guessing the 31's would still give me a good look, but also allow me to do off roading , even more once i get the 2-3 inch lift (springs, shocks etc...) and once i wear them out, maybe then go 33's basicaly, anything would look better than the pizza tires (stock) that i have on my jeep now. this is why im concidering the 31's. they are cheaper, ..

My mind is still not made up, i still may put the 33's on, im just concerned about rubbing until i get a lift, and the added weight.... plus, im still really new to the jeep wranger family, so, all.. all of this is new to me, and i dont want to make a mistake or spend 1500 that i regret. i plan on spending the nxt 10 years making mods, mudding, off roading and having a blast with my new jeep. i want to make sure i regret as little as possible.

Does anyone know if you can cash in on the Goodyear mail-in rebate AND the tread lightly rebate? Or is it one of those "can not be combined with" rebates?

Sounds like you have the base model sport. Those 225/75/16 are 29" tires, so moving to a 31" tire would be a step up. But, like Mike said, S package Sports, Saharas, and Rubicons all come with 32" tires stock. So I would definitely not recommend going with anything smaller than that.

From what I have read, looks like both is no problem. Don't hold me to that tho, as I have no first hand experience with it.

Oh ok. I did not see anything about it. One last thing, do you have to be a tread lightly member for "X" amount of days before you can use the rebate? Say if I signed up today, could I make any order the same day and then use the rebate once my setup comes in?

Ahh, as 4fit mentioned, yes, you have the base model Sport which comes with 29" tires.

Still, all Rubis, Saharas, and Sport Ss do in fact come with 32" tires. So look around and decide if you want your tires to be at least that big. If so, then the most sensible thing to do is probably to just get on Craigslist and find a set of Rubi takeoffs. They'll be a perfect fit, a stock size, and will be cheaper than any aftermarket options. Be patient and you'll find some--folks are always changing out their stock wheels/tires, so Craigslist (and even eBay) can be a good source.

I doubt very much you'll see a Rubi drive by and say to yourself, "Boy, I wish my tires were bigger than they are now, but still smaller than what I just saw." To the contrary, I think you'll say, "Those look good, but they should be just a little bigger."

It's your money, but for what it's worth I've never heard of a JKer buying aftermarket 31" tires. I think if you get them, you'll be unhappy in short order and looking for new ones.

Yes. At least that's what I did when I ordered mine a few months ago.

No, you couldn't. You have to wait until you receive your "number" or whatever it is via mail. As I recall, it took a week or so and they expressly request that you not to call and hound them for it ahead of time.

Thanks MTH, I may go with 32's I just want to be assured that if i put 33's on with Wheel Details - Discount Tire that i wont have any rubbing and if i hit normal traffic pot holes, bumps i wont hurt the tire or worse my jeep. this is my daily driver and i prob wont be able to get the lift kit for several weaks, and i want to make sure that driving it wont hurt anything if i put 33's on and dont do a lift anytime soon. i understand not going off roading until i do the lift, but i just want to make sure that doing 33's with out the lift wont hurt if i stay on the roads. the other reason i was thinking 31's was this post. http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/new-...-155081-2.html

I just don't see why you would pay more for 31s when you could get Rubi takeoffs (32s) for less . . .

In any event, there are quite a few threads floating around where guys put on 33x12.5R15 DuraTracs on 15" alloys without a lift and had no problems during their daily driving. I'm sure you can find them if you poke around.

Up to you. Here's my 33x12.5R15s under 2.5" of lift. It gets driven 70 miles per day during the week:

I just put an order in with DTD last Tuesday. The dude I talked to said both rebates can be used. He also said to join tread lightly the same day that I place the tire/wheel order if I was not a member already. I didn't ask him to elaborate, but maybe you cant get the rebate if you become a member after you make the purchase?

As for the number of days, I think you just have to wait for your member id to come in the mail. Folks keep saying that you cant call them to ask for it, and I think they might say that on their website as well.

thanks again, ill keep looking , atm im trying to find the best price, on everything. im prob going to actuall pull the trigger in June or July, hopefully thats when i can also do some serious "Playen in the dirt" lol

Thanks guys for the info. Since I know BOTH can be used, I will sign up to tread lightly today. I may make the order for my new setup later today or Monday.

Waiting for the number is not a huge deal especially if it only takes a week or two to come in.

Use Discount Tire through the forum here. They'll match any delivered price and generally get rave reviews.

I used both on my purchase last month. I've already gotten my GY rebate, still waiting on my TL. I sent that one a little later, so I'm not concerned.

Yeah I got confirmation that they both work. So 4-6 weeks for the GY rebate, not bad at all. I probably will not get my TL membership number for like 10 days at least so that'll go in later. No biggie. Just glad both rebates are good

can you order the tires before you get your TL membership and still qualify for the rebate?

So I can join TL tomorrow and then order the tires from DTD tomorrow also and just fill out TL's rebate with my new membership # after it comes in the mail?

You can get your membership number via email instead of waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Its much fast this way. TL will mail you a check for the rebate in about 6 weeks after you submit your receipt and rebate form to them. Its all on their website and easy to print out, only about one page. Goodyear's rebate around $40 for a new set of duratracs is done by them in the same way. All you have to do is print out the form from a participating vendor and mail it in. Took a few weeks to a month total for mine. The $50 off discount is instant upon ordering, just let them know your a forum member and request it when ordering.

Yep whenever I bought mine last year I used the $50 forum discount, Goodyear had a $40 rebate, and the TL $100 rebate. Those paid for my 5th tire and a little more!

Does anyone have any more information on the tires vibrating at speed and rebalancing helping? Is this a hit or miss issue?
