Its got alot to do with the measurements of the rim. The inside sticky weights are so close to the inside hammer on weights.

I'm trying to fill out the $60 rebate from goodyear on duratracs that I got from DTD. The online form asks for the store zip code, so I put in DTD's zip code of 85085. It shows two DT stores, but no DTD. Anyone know if it's in the database and what the zip code is?

Otherwise I'll print and send in the paperwork.

Got my tires yesterday. Of course that meant I had to drive home in the nor'easter on my bald stockers, the out again at night to go shooting without having time to do the swap. Got home at about 11:30 and my awesome wife helped me put them on.

What better way to.test them out then a rip around the snow covered yard?

Few observations:

Center caps for the tko... Is it SUPPOSED to have a 1/2 inch gap around the diameter of the cap? Like it doesn't sit flush against the wheel. I'm thinking of cutting off about 1/2 inch of each "finger" back there to get it flush. I'll get new bolts if I have to.

Balance is off. All good to about 45. 45-60 gets a front end shake. Not violent but I can see the steering wheel moving. At about 70 the whole jeep vibrates. This sucks a lot. And because I bought online I don't get free lifetime balancing. So I'm probably going to have to take it somewhere and see if they can balance it better.

My duratracs were a bitch to balance. Still arent perfect. I put match marks on the outside of the tire and rim and noticed from driving the tire rotated on the rim... Which will throw the balance

Yeah, i noticed it yesterday morning. Tire slipped on the rim, therefor throwing the balance off. Put 2 match marks on the outsides of your tires and rims and see if your tires are sticking or slipping on your rims

Looks great, hopefully you can get those balancing issues worked out.

I have a couple questions. How bad were the stock tires in the snow and which ones did your Jeep come with? I have the Goodyear Wrangler 255/75 r17s stock and living/working in the Lake Erie snow belt, I'm really curious about how they will handle the snow.

Also, how good were the Duratracs in the snow?

Thanks

This is my main worry about buying tires online. In the end the $5 difference per tire that DT was offering over my local shop just isn't worth it when you take into effect balance issues and tire abnormality potential. I'd rather pay $75 more to the local shop and if there are any problems then I go back to them and tell them to fix it/replace the tire/etc. DT would have to beat their price pretty substantially for me to take that risk - like $200 or more and in the end they couldn't do it.

I had the stock Sahara tires. Last night we got hit with a nor'easter I drove 20 miles home from work on secondary roads, then out again for probably a total of 50 miles. I was sliding, but.it was mostly deliberate.

Over all I am really happy with the snow performance of the jeep, but I'm coming from a vw gti, so pretty much anything is an up grade. Can't speak for on road snow ability with the duratracs. Roads were clear this morning.

Yeah I'm coming from an Acura RSX type S, so the Jeep should be an upgrade. I started running Blizzaks in the winter though and it made a huge improvement.

Yea but Dt offers the warranty. I already sent one back no questions asked. I might be doing all 4 if this keeps up.

Also.., I did read about techs using too much tire slime when mounting causing the tire to rotate. I just can't see it happen but I'm wrong I guess.

I got mine through the eBay deal so no warranties or road force balance available. I'm looking to find a road force balancer in my area. Think that would help at all?

Yes... Just go to the hunter site and enter your zip.

Yea I've found a bunch but Idk if they would unmount the tire do the road force then remount.... And there goes all the money I saved through the rebates.

Yup hence why I don't think it's worth ordering tires online without a substantial discount compared to my local shop which DT is not offering in order to offset my risk with the reputation of these particular tires. It's like $50 a tire to remount/rebalance for a hunter machine plus the hassle of sending the tire back and waiting for a new one to return plus the cost of breaking the bad tire down too which you know a shop won't do for free if you didn't buy the tire from them. I was hoping DT's prices would be considerably better than local but it just doesn't turn out to be the case for me. It's easier to pay the extra $75 or so which includes tax and no questions asked from the local shop if there is a problem. One problem at any point in the future and your savings is instantly eaten away plus some.

Yeah i dont know if your ever gonna balance them perfect and get it to drive around the stock setup. But trust me, the looks are un-real. Turned it from a boy to a man.

Here's the deal on DTD. They mount/balance the tires for free when you order the combo. That alone saves you at least $60. Then you also get all the rebates. Then you also get free shipping which saves $100-$150. And as if all that wasn't enough, their prices are the lowest in the U.S. to start with. So, compared to 99% of the local shops out there, DTD BLOWS AWAY the prices offered locally. Period.

If you're lucky enough to have a shop that can somehow match DTD (and lose money on the deal doing it) for you...jump on it because I can assure you it's a rarity.

I got 4 MB wheels with 4 Duratracs mounted, balanced, and delivered to my door for $1,000 with new lug nuts, after rebates and discounts. There is not a single shop anywhere that will even sell you the tires by themselves for $1,000. I literally saved hundreds of dollars by going with DTD.

I've returned tires to DTD before because of balancing issues (Falkens) and it was totally painless. Called them, they emailed a label, I stuck label on tire and dropped off at UPS store, DONE. DTD is the best place to get tires, period. It's to the point where I don't even price match with local shops anymore. I already know they can't come remotely close.

Wow, I was certainly not offered that deal!! JUST for 5 tires in size 265/70/17 delivered was around $1100 for me. No wheels, just tires. Even factoring in the $50 forum rebate their price was still only $5 less per tire than my local shop which had a $50 coupon of their own to apply plus the other $60 GY rebate. Heck, even the local Walmart is only $19 more per the same tire which includes M&B. I had heard a lot about DT but in the end they just didn't cut the mustard for me. Sounds like they certainly did for you though. I'd be all over a deal like that but I don't want a 33" tire because I don't want to lift or run spacers.

So, are these Duratracs the most comfy tire available. I have been running MT MTZ in 265/70/17 in E load rating with a terrible harsh ride, just swapped back to stock 245 tires and the difference is night and day. I only really need AT's, but my main concern is ride comfort, not grip or longevity. I figure the Duratracs and MT ATZ are my only option as the offer the 2 ply sidewall, but I also hear the BFG are as soft a tyre but come with a 3 ply side wall.
Any comments.
