Interesting thought I'm planning my next set of tires from DTD. They were great for this and I'm hopeful to have the same experience with them again.

Yep. So far, DTD has been outstanding with answers to my incessant PMs here on the forum. Will be finalizing my order with a trip to the local shop this Wednesday.

I have a Stock (No Lift) Rubicon 2010 2Dr. Not interested in a lift but would like a slightly bigger tire.

If the 33x12.5-15 on the MB72 were next to the Stock BFG M/T 255/70/17 (I think?)

How much taller is that 33 than my stock set up?
How much wider?
How much further does is stick out (towrads the fenders?)

No lift needed?

What are the con to having less rim and more rubber?
What are the pro's?

It would seem that even in the 33" were equal to the Stock wheel they would look bigger (more balloony) due to the smaller rim... Sound right?

Thanks... My stock tires are getting low and I am on the prowl for new tires. Wanna do it right. Like the DuraTrac - looks good. What is the expected tread life?

Lots of questions.

This is a great place to ask these questions!!
Thanks!!!!

How much wider? I think the stock should be 255/75/17 which makes the 33's .94" taller and 2.46" wider
How much further does is stick out (towrads the fenders?) Look at ESP's pictures

No lift needed? Not needed but if you disconnect your swaybar it may rub without a small lift. Better backspace is needed for the wheels though

What are the con to having less rim and more rubber? More roll
What are the pro's? Less damage to rims on the trail

It would seem that even in the 33" were equal to the Stock wheel they would look bigger (more balloony) due to the smaller rim... Sound right? I would put it that it makes the tire look beefier lol

I'll try to answer all your questions.

You tires now vs 33's will be about a 1.5 inch difference roughly.

having smaller rims will make the tires look "beefier/bigger" Smaller rims can net a small performance gain as well.

If you don't off road you will want to stick with recommond rim size for the given width of a tire. Example being a 12.5 inch tire needs 10 inch rim, but if you off road it better to get a 8. Idea is to go down two sizes roughly smaller for the rim than the tire.

If you are sticking with a 255 I would just stick with 8 inch rim, your stock ones are 7.5 Or go up to a 285 and still get a 8 inch rim. Duratrac tires are the lightest and proven to be one of the best tires out there for on road and off.

To add to djstorm and rics replies to RubiDubidoo's post...

The DuraTrac should last 45K + miles on the Jeep assuming the tires are taken care of. The 15x8 ET-19 MB72 mounted with 33x12.50-15 will rub slightly at full turn on 2010 so you may want to consider a mini lift. Another added benefit of running a smaller diameter wheel with larger sidewall tires (besides price) is floatation when aired down.

Thanks for the tip on this set up, ESP. Out of curiosity, have you down a true measurement of how tall the tire is off the ground when mounted and on your Jeep? I know most tires "shrink" a bit when installed and I was wondering what the true ride height is.

Thanks, and nice looking rig.

Just ordered a very similar set up folks. Same 33x12.5R15 DuraTracs, but I'm going with 15" Black Rock D-Windows instead of MB72s.

My tires are already at my local Discount Tire, though the wheels are coming from California. I'll post a new thread up with pics when I get'em installed along with a link to the thread from here. Can't wait.

(Edit - Of course you realize that I'm just being ridiculous for the sake of being ridiculous. The reason we both--independently--picked this set up is because it's a great one. Same with ESP. As mentioned by kjeeper10, I think 33x12.5R15 DuraTracs and a nice set of 15" alloys are just going to get more and more popular as people start looking at the great low weight and overall performance offered by the DuraTracs. Can't beat it, seems to me.)

Hahah. I like it! "THE COMBO" has a great ring to it.

This is a really popular fitment over on project-JK. Our 15" MB72 Alloy VS Steel thread is 82 pages deep with over 86,000 views over there!

I ordered mine last Monday. As you know, the wheels are special order so I'm just waiting on them to get shipped to DTD and assembled for shipping.

I'm only guessing, but maybe around early week after next? dunno

My leveling kit just arrived a few minutes ago....will install that this weekend so I'll be able to mount the tires the day they arrive.

The Teraflex leveling kit just arrived. Looking over the instructions this seems insanaly easy to do. I'm gonna to buy a new floor jack after rush hour is over with so I can get the kit installed first thing in the morning.
