Country Fried Weekend 2010

This was last weekend in the Chatahoochee National Forest. Got kinda wet on Sunday. None of the moonshine photos made it to the slideshow...

Looks like you guys had a great time. What part of the CNF were you in?

We were on Jones Creek; about halfway between Bull and Springer Mountains.
It's too easy to get there now and I'm afraid that the Gypsy-wagon campers are going to start going there...

Great Video by the way. I really want to get out and play on the trails, but I'm running stock until my warranty expires. Is this a fairly easy trail?

The only thing that would hinder a stock Jeep on any trails around Amicalola Falls are the stock tires; some of the rocks are big, some of the ditches are deep, but they're all navigable if you take a second to pick a clean line.

We've wheeled it with a friend before he changed his stock tires and helped him plug his tire...
Here's Philip and Aimee while fixing their tire; notice that they're still having a good time.

Chips95 and I both have Conqueror Compacts; at the time, we dropped $8K on them.
Adventure Trailers, Kimberly Kampers, Sherpa from Outlander trailers, Little Rough Rider ---- all similar concepts.

The trailer with the XJ was designed and built by StumpXJ in his garage from a pile of steel and spare parts. He looked closely at my trailer and solicited advice from Martyn Davies, one of the Adventure Trailers partners.
It's a very nice trailer but still a work in progress.

This is where Jimbo will say, "what about Tentrax"...

So a really old pickup camper on the back of a newer Unimog? I like this. It's Redneck with Money.

It's an '88 1300L (German military and then Colorado firefighter) with a 3rd-hand Alaskan non-cabover topper. He got the Alaskan from an ad by a guy that bought a p'up ---- didn't know the value of the Alaskan at all.
He's got 6 Mogs now...

The "steps" on the side of it fold down and can hold lots of weight.

Finally had a chance to view it. Nice vid and pics. Looks like you had a fun weekend. IMO rain adds spice to any outing. I've learned through extreme scouting (BSA) that rain can be both challenging and fun and usually never dampens my outdoor spirits.

Thanks for sharing.

Yikes A bit pricey! Hmmm...guess I'll keep looking for a used pop up camper although I won't be able to get off road with one...Thanks for the info!

Compared to the way we used to travel (long distance motorcycle tourism), it's already paid for itself compared to hotel charges.

I hear ya...but I was thinking it would be the balls to just use one in campgrounds etc., but I can find something a lot cheaper and capable of sleeping 5-6 people that will simply sit on a site...I can travel from there. They are really cool though...Maybe when I retire and go cross country and check out the Western USA...?
