Custom JK Grilles

I was doing some thinking and thought it might be cool to see custom grilles for the JK Wranglers. Instead of the standard 7 opening grille what if there was a grille with 5 beefy openings? Or different sized stars in the grille area? Any other ideas that would be popular?

Yeah, unlikely. The 7-slot grille is a classic Jeep sign. Changing that is a bit of sacrilege to Jeepers.
If you REALLY want to change it, go for it- just expect full-well to be flamed by anyone who doesn't dig it (myself included )
Cheers- Mark W.

How 'bout this one. Sounds like you would need to build a custom grille.

try pirate4x4.com those guys love this type of custom stuff, they will surely have some sweet grille ideas, and maybe even some write ups.

you need to understand that the jeep grille is, pretty much, the logo. to us, what you are asking to do is like asking "hey, what do you think about me putting 7 stripes on the American flag and making them thicker. and, hey, what about putting 2 HUGE stars instead of 50?"

Would that improve my traction or breakover angle?

Here's your target demographic, btw. They like phat grilles.

really you do care because otherwise you would be wondering why no one is replying to your thread, and the main reason why jeep people will not want to change it is because the 7 slot grill is not only a "logo" to us but has been around since the jeep went into the civilian market (so historical/respect). some say that its because the JEEP has been on all seven continents and in war in all of them (correct me if im wrong) and that is why willys went with 7 after the war but ford stuck with 9 slots on their MUTTs, but i cant find any facts on that its all legend as far as i know. funny thing is though that ford was the designer of the stamped grills but originally had 9 slots and the civilian jeeps took on the 7.

and i personally think that anything else just looks silly (including the above aftermarket product) prolly a niche out there for noobs to jeep but not for the majority...especially for the price to convert it to anything else...you can buy a winch for that price and have something useful

And if my memory serves, Jeep filed a trade mark infringement suit against Hummer over the 7 slots. It's all in the legend and changing it will offend the Almighty Architect of the Universe

Haters definition according to UrbanDictionary.com
Quote:
A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.
We can't possibly be 'haters' here because we view your idea as a massive fail, rather than success. You'd be better off on a whips board, or perhaps nick jr.

On my old Land Rover Series II, the grill was a metal cross pattern that was easily removable and served as a perfect "grill", for camp cooking over a fire. This is one of the mods my JK may get if I ever got her set up for expeditions years from now. Unless it's for functional reasons, there's no reason to mess with the Jeep grill IMHO.

Good grief, use the grill for a campfire

I've got a campfire grill-with legs and it was $29 bucks--powdercoated--

Yeah, good grief...cook on a cheap powder coated grill then put the dirty thing inside your jeep. Much better to get a stainless (comes clean with just water when hot) and just clip it back behind your bumper. To each their own I guess.

Hey I got an idea, lets not turn this into one of those other Forums that reticules others for an idea that is different. I am on this site for just that reason it is laid back and open to all ideas. A jeep is like LEGO's you build it the way you want and let others build it the way they want. I like a little Chrome on my jeep it's makes it just a little different from what everyone else has with all the flat colors. I know I'm in the minority but i still don't go around flaming others for there taste in flat black everything. Your taste is different then mine, that is what makes Driving a Jeep great, there are so many different sizes, shapes, and variations. I also think it is poor taste for a WF Moderator to get in on the bashing.

To the OP good luck on your search and post some pics when you find something "YOU" like.

Well my understanding is there is one slot for every one of the 7 continents Jeep has been on and conquered.

@osujeeper:

im sure that it would have went differently if he had posted up a modified grill of his own that he made and/or bought and installed on his jeep... people on here are much nicer to jeepers that modify their jeeps whether we like it or not, if not its usually a "to each his own" or "not what i like but more power to you for doing something you like" and mostly leave it at that.

BUT he asked for opinions and ideas... and he got mostly opinions because not alot of people on here want what he was thinking of making/selling ....

so really ... we arent bashing him, and FYI moderators are people just like anyone else on the forum with opinions, all they get is extra functions on the forum to help clean it up for what wranglerforum.com forum rules state... they can still have opinions and the like...

You're right. I'm putting DC-2s on my rig, and I know that most people don't like anything but the black steelies for wheels. I like a little of the brushed aluminum down there. Not everyone's cup of tea, but whatever. I'm the only one driving it. So if this guy want's to change up the seven-slotter, who are we to criticize.

Live, and let live.

The Jeep grille is kind of a trademark, I like it but if you want to change it then thats up to you. Anyway a change is as good as a holiday & sometimes you just have to try something new, later you may not like it anyway. Interesting thread, I will stick to the standard 7 slot.
Guess it doesn't matter now b/c RFF is probably long gone
