Factory/Cheap Front Bumper Mods

okay, let me premis this thread with: "i have tried to search here, JKO, and google for this and have come up empty, either there arent any threads out there or i suck at searches"

Show me some pics and/or tips for modding your factory front bumper.

i know there is the rough country plastic caps for pretty cheap... not bad

i have heard of people just sawzalling it off on the sides... show me pics i want to see how it looks

or cutting it off and plating the ends... lets see them.

cheap modded bumpers (ie light bars, winch plated, whatever etc.)

if you remove the plastic off does the fog lights have mounting points still or do they attach to the bumper itself...

i pretty much am unsatisfied with my front bumper but i dont have $400-800 to buy a stubby or replacement bumper... MAYBE one day i will upgrade to one of these but for now i want some options, otherwise its going to stay stock and i dont like it...

The cheapest "mod" is to just take off the jugs, or whatever you have on there and buy $3.00 factory caps that came with some Wrangler-X models. They cap the ends nice a flush.

Mopar Part # 55078138AA (X2)

Rear caps # 55078139AA (X2)

There's a pic of mine, and here's a link to another thread: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/repl...aps-16786.html

If you remove the plastic shell you will lose the mounting points for the fogs. I have seen the plain metal bumper with the front tow hooks and the bolts painted black. Doesn't look too bad.

talked to scooter here and can see what he did, basically removed the plastic, chopped the ends off and changed out the fog lights...

im going to be doing something similar i think. maybe angle the ends and plate them... not sure. but if i do i will post up a thread on it or use this one.... i guess no one has any ideas other than buying a new bumper...

I'm planning on chopping mine off right at the outside of the "bulbs" and I'll probably fab up some end plates out of diamond plate. I got a whole pile of diamond plate scraps I can probably use

Dunno when I'll get a round tuit though to be totally honest... last time I moved I went from a garage to a carport, and my welder and most of my tools are still in storage... gotta figure out some way to store em all without em walkin off.

I think the big thing is that a lot of folks aren't too willing to take an angle grinder to a Jeep that's still on 4 digit mileage
