Is the Rubi I'm looking at a real Rubi

Noob alert. This is my first posting after months of sitting in the shadows spying on you guys and girls so be gentle.

Ok, I got the Wife Ok, Bank Ok and found an excellent 07 Rubi with only 30k on it but before I pull the trigger I want to know if there is a way to prove that it's a true Rubicon. Is there a Vin code designation to prove it's not just a converted X or something. It's not all that hard to put orange shocks, stickers and different tires on a Jeep then mark up the price. What should I look for to determine itís authentic? Thanks.

if it is through a car dealer and they are calling it a rubicon then it is going to be a rubicon. if they call it a rubicon and it is not a rubicon that is consumer fraud and there are serious penalties for that. no dealer in their right mind would risk that. do you have a pic of the jeep? do you know what features are on the jeep? we should be able to help you out if you let us know what options are on the jeep. rubicons are pretty easy to spot (aside form the stickers)

It is a dealer though not a Jeep dealer. I hope to have it for a 24 hour test drive this week so I'll post pics. I know most manufacturers use the vin to describe year make model and usually series (i.e the 8th digit on all vins is the model year of the vehicle so a 7 would mean 2007 and prior to 2000 they were letters). Thanks for the help.

Look at the VIN. If the 5-7th digits are A64 for a 2 door or A69 for a 4 door then it is a Rubicon.

If you can post up the actual VIN I can tell you exactly what trim level it is.

if you look under the front axle there will be a sticker and it will say DANA if its a rubi it will say DANA 44 if its an x it will say DANA 30. just look at other options too like electronic sway bar disconects and even the dash. my parents rubi has the mpg and all that when mine doesnt. the dash will also be in silver trim when the x is in black. these are just some of the difference i notice between my parents rubi and my x. o and lastly look under the hood if there is a pad on the underside of the hood then its a rubi the x's dont have the heat/noise blanket. the vin is also a good way to check too cause all of these things could be changed just not that easily

im sure you will be like jgano23 said is way illegal for a dealership to fraud people like that. you might be better off if its not a rubi cause then you can sue em and get the jeep for free.

Unfortunately, I waited a few mintues too long. Was gonna stop by today and some guy from Texas flew in to purchase it. I've already found a replacement though; a 09 Black Rudi (which is the color I wanted) and have already spoken to them about financing, waiting to hear back. If it's a go, I'll post some pics of the new ride. If not I'll post some pics of my Montero for you all to laught at.

Sunstate Motors in Sarasota. Called them yesterday and they drove it up to central florida and drove my Montero back for me at no cost. All in all a great buying experience. It might still be on cars.com. I got them down to 27,200 before cash and trade.

Thanks everyone. With summer half over and living in Florida I think I'm gonna work on setting her up for the nice weather ahead. Maybe get tube doors and a Bikini top for her. Suspension is up in the air for a while. Hoping to meet up with the CFL Jeep club and start checking out other rides in the flesh and see what everyone is using. Since she is a daily driver and rock crawling isn't in my future (yet) extreme suspension mods may not be necessary. I'm flipping between 33 and 35 inch tires and am planning on the usual intake, exaust and other bolt on improvements. That should keep me eating bread and water for a while. =)
