Up until now it was impossible to have a tan top on a JK. finally someone built one. Rough Country has stepped into the top arena.
You are looking at the first production Tan Top for a JK. Now they are available and I would recommend either color if your looking for a good top in the 300 range.
this one is a replace a sail. quality is on par for the price range. Id compare it to pavement ends or the rampage replace a tops. It bolted right up to my factory hardware with no drama. the windows are a little thinner than the oem top but have a nice feel and the tint is uniform.
Look for a full write up soon from JeepsOnTrails.com but until then Id say if you are after a Tan top you wont be upset with this one.
awesome looking , when I ordered the bestop trek top nx for my jk that is amp'd , I was hoping to be able to get a tan or greyish color , all they come in is black though , my 98 tj was chili red with tan interior and top , loved that combo
So I've been checking back in with the original thread, "why no JK tan top" since 2012 and followed through with this thread. These seem to be the only discussions in existence. I bought a 2012 all sahara tan Sahara JKU back in 2011 in hopes an ACTUAL tan color soft top would some day exist.
That day has come. I just got in a 10-14 JKU model spice top I ordered on Amazon today. My first impression of the quality on this top is.....Eh. I kind of expected that given the price though. I have a tan CJ5 super top and I thought it's fabric was a little thin. This top seems even thinner. I threw up the top over my OEM soft top to see what it looks like.
So far, if this is in fact the 10-14 top, Rough Country decided to go with the narrower 07-09 rear window. I already jumped a track on one zipper and pulled off a zipper pull and it's not even installed. I am calling them tomorrow to ask. With that being said, none of these quality issues may matter given the 3 year warranty.
My opinion may be skewed given the fact I have a brand new 2014 premium OEM top and the fabric difference between the 2 is.....large.
I'm still pumped and will post up pics with it installed
I just called rough country this morning and they said the only difference between their 07-09 and 10-14 JKU tops were how they attached; the 07-09 used plastic caps/rails ? and the 10-14 tops used the cable and spring system.
They do in fact use the smaller rear windows on both year range tops
jezz man hands. take it easy on the zippers
what do your jeans look like
just fing with you. my top has been great. up and down a dozen plus times. maybe you ended up with bum zippers.
and the difference in years is huge. the older top uses the same kind of attachment on the top of the door as the rest of the top uses to the tub.
newer model tops use a cable spring system allowing the sunrider to function
