Thumbs up NOOB 2008 Rubicon 2DR

Hey Guys and Gals,
I just picked up a 2008 JK Rubicon:

Black
Hard Top
Navigation
6SPD
Tow Package
Nerf Bars
etc...

looking for some guidance I am looking to do a 4"-6" inch lift looking for a lift that is not just for looks. I am not looking to spend 5K though, and because I have a Rubicon with the E-Disco does that change what lift I get etc..I am not knew to off roading but new to jeep and the JK inparticular. I wont have the vehicle for a few more days since the dealer had just taken it on trade 5 hours before I bought it so title should be in early this week

I did how ever already sneak it into a local sandpit lol

so any advice is welcome etc...

Mods I would like:

Lift
winch mount bumper front and rear
LED tail lights
HID headlights...do they make a projector style like the new grand cherokee?
snorkel kit
exhuast
chip

Kindest Regards,
Michael

I think it looks great but I'm a TJ'er so my opinion may not count and I can't really tell you anything about what you can and can't do to or with it. It is definitely well lit. Congrats on the new ride.

I wasn't being a smart a$$, quite the opposite. It is a very nice Rubi and I think that a lift would look great. I really don't know much about the JK's or what it would take to put that size lift under it. I do think that you are going to be wanting to put a soft top on it though. Living in NH with all that beautiful scenery, it would be a shame to only be able to view it through the windshield.

and I think its great to be able to work on these with out reprogramming the computer everytime you mod something!!

just a FYI I have already contacted a HID Projector retrofit company about working together on designing a direct plug and play kit for JK's

How big will your tires be? You don't have to lift a JK as much as earlier Jeep incarnations to fit larger rubber.
A BDS 3", Rough Country 2.5", AEV Nth Degree 3.5" --- all will let you fit a decent amount of rubber.
I happen to believe that a 2dr Rubi is perfect on 35's with 3" of lift...
I'd lose the stock wheels though and get something with 4.5" of backspacing; beadlocks, if you can fund them.

I'm running Rugged Ridge but my personal "favorites" are LoD bumpers. I have a Smittybilt winch XRC8-Comp winch; works great but won't impress anybody with its speed.

Sylvania Valeo makes a legal HID retrofit kit; it's about $980. Don't get the cheap ones or illegal ones.

again, not something I would ever consider.

The things I tend to address are pure function, safety, comfort, convenience ---- if there's any money left at the end of that, I might try to make it pretty or squeeze out the last 5 ponies.
But there's just too many other things first.

Bigger tires, lift, extra weight from bumpers/winch/onboard-air? You might want some spinnier gears. Auxiliary trans cooler. Camping gear.

Welcome to Jeepdom; have fun.

My best advice is to spend a few weeks reading through some threads. You'll find members who think/wheel like you ----- might not even be me...
It just pays to do a little research and make informed choices. Getting it right is very rewarding; getting it wrong is frustrating and expensive.

as far as functional lift kits go Teraflex seems to be the most popular. I would suggest Northridge4x4 Jeep Parts Online Store or call them at (360) 340-0282 ask to speak to Dave he can help you with all your questions. As far as tuners go Superchips is the way to go, a little pricey but its well worth it.

Well, I for one was just seething with envy. I was worried that any post would sound like sour grapes. Nice ride. Have fun. It should be mine. You don't deserve it. I hate you. Ooops. I slipped. Sorry.

I'll say to you what I say to every newbie- WHEEL IT BEFORE YOU SPEND THE PRICE OF THE JEEP AGAIN ON MODS!
The stock JK is VERY capable, not even getting into the Rubicon model. Try it out AS IS, see where it's lacking, and go from there. You already have more off-road gear STOCK than most other Wranglers you'll see on the trails. Think about it- e-lockers, sway bar discos, 32" mud terrains, Dana 44's front and rear- that's a SICK build out for any other Wrangler! Maybe not extreme, but definitely one helluva rig!
Thus, I say- leave it alone, figure out what you NEED, then go on a spending spree. Send me whatever you don't spend Mark W.

15" wheels def are needed

Anyways, always ask yourself. Do I really need that? or, Will I use it enough to justify the price?

The reason I say that is because (as a fairly new jeeper myself). You'll want to buy everything that looks cool because hey, it looks COOL! Everyone does it really. But think to yourself, ex. I wanted a snorkel. But I don't plan on getting in that deep because I'll need to do other mods to do that kind of stuff. While yes, it looks BA do you really need it, or will you use it enough?

I wouldnt. But hey, to each his own. I'm even tighter with my money because I'm a broke college kid Functionality parts over "I wanna look cool, but not use it" parts. But who knows, you might use the stuff you put.. I'm just giving my opinion and I wouldnt.
