Did you retain the use of Bluetooth and the steering wheel functions?

I didn't retain the use of Bluetooth because I had the base head unit in my Jeep. It was the base head unit with "premium" (ha!) audio system. It didn't come with Bluetooth to begin with.

So I gained Bluetooth.

I did retain the steering wheel controls because I went with the PAC RP4-CH11 module.

Is that head unit easy to install, wiring wise? Is there a lot of extra wiring or anything to keep the steering wheel controls and all other stock functions that might run though the head unit ? Thanks

All of the sound places I visit online say that a Double Din head unit has to be "custom fitted" to 13+ JKs. Is there actual cutting involved or do these go right in? I thought I was limited to single Din

There's a bracket that needs to be removed(pic below). It sits above and behind the factory radio. It must be unscrewed and removed for the install of most double din aftermarket radios.

Also, a bezel is needed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and Can-bus wiring harness(I used this): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (this is if you don't have a factory amp, there are different ones for the factory amp and also harnesses from Pac-audio).
If you have steering wheel controls and want to retain them: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or a Pac-audio unit.

I am a little disappointed with the stereo system in my new jeep so I want to upgrade it. I know im going to polyfill the sound bar for better sound but i was wondering if replacing just the speakers would make a big difference or if i should go for a aftermarket HU too. any suggestions?

The speakers will absolutely make a big difference.

...then an aftermarket head unit .
...then an aftermarket amp or two and a separate sub if you don't already have one.

as much as i would love to throw in a double din aftermarket Nav head unit, i think it might be overkill considering i tend to leave my jeep topless half the year. i believe the south florida sun would basically over power screen with glare.

So is the only way to remove your factory unit involve removing half the dash???

That looks like the basic china android head unit you can buy on Ebay with a custom shop logo. Since you arent a manufacturer and are probably just a reseller... what makes yours more stable than the others? OS updates, warranty, compatibility...?

Ive got the Parrot Asteroid SMART which I am not overly thrilled about (but mainly nitpicking). Their support is terrible and I have been considering a change but I have to know if the product is backed and worthwhile to throw more cash at a different product. Their only benefit is that it is an actual manufacturing company that isnt just re-packaging.

Do you have more info on your OS integration as well? I am taking a wild stab that you have the basic drivers for the radio module etc and will be maintaining the upgrades to those drivers and compatibility as the OS updates? Plans on providing updates to use Google Auto or Apple CarPlay?

Here's my install...Parrot Asteroid SMART

My home screen

After hitting the bubble for the app drawer (you could see on the right side in the homescreen image)

Backup camera launched interdependently of using reverse (comes on automatically still when in reverse)

Torque pro running

Radio tuner screen

And the custom sub/amp box I built. Downfiring the 10w3v3 so I dont lose the bass when the top is off and amps mounted under the top to keep them away from water if any gets in the tub. Resin'd for water resistance. Ignore the dirtyness as I tend to take the path less traveled with open windows or the top off... also going to be covering the box with a DiY MOLLE strap cover for additional organization. Tub will soon be lined with bedliner as well.

I just bought an Alpine double DIN unit to replace my 430N. (I need HD Radio for work.)

I'm curious about the PAC interface mentioned earlier that allows you to retain your steering wheel controls, factory amp, etc. How well does it work? It's getting mixed reviews at Crutchfield's website.

One of the complaints is you lose the ability to fade from front to back.

I'm hoping to be able to connect up to the factory amp because I have the factory Alpine sound and would like to be able to power the factory sub with minimum hassle.

I'm definitely looking forward to this JeepAudio HU and its great ya'll are at least into the 4.x version of Android. I think the Parrot Asteroid runs something like a skinned version of 2.3 which was new, I think, around the summer of 2010. I use and like iOS but I love android. There are pros and cons to each OS but you can't beat the massive amount of flexibility and OS customization (rooted or not) with android vs. iOS

You people must live in some nice gated communities. Running flashy stuff like that where I live is a sure way to get my soft top sliced up. If I don't have anything inside they want I get to keep it and a $1000 top.

Yeah, one of the big gripes is that it runs gingerbread.

Eh... I hire some armed guards to watch my rig at all times.
But in all honesty... just a hard top and park it in my garage at home. Otherwise at the office its not a bad area... and even if it is, its just material items. I tend to turn down the music when I get near my destination as to avoid any advertising. Even with the top off I dont worry. If someone wants to go through the trouble of getting it out... good for them. Insurance will cover the replacement.

Same here, Hard top and I park in my own garage that closes.. At work i park in a secure parking garage... So nothing to really worry about, but if they do get in they enjoy playing in my gym bag as must of my valuables are usually removed...

The Ipad mount is a custom mount from cop 4x4.....im not 100% sure but I almost certain they don't sell or make them anymore...and when they did, I dont think they made many. I heard they were going to make one (or did) for an Ipad Mini which would be great...i have one and would probably swap out....i love the ipad....have maps, itunes, tunein radio app for any stations, and use it as well with a GPS app.

I have a hardtop and a offroad heros softtop....i have the softtop on 4-5 months of the year and never have a problem....and im not going to start and live my life dictated by people stealing things, terrorists, etc....and if they do try to enter my jeep from my house I see it...I support and exercise my 5th amendment rights
