I attached a 2x4 to the joist above with the lag screws, then attached the lift arms to the 2x4.

and yes, the extension on the drill comes with the lift. You'll need a 1/2 in drill... but I can take the top off by myself in 5 minutes, and the power drill raises or lowers the lift in just minutes with no effort on my part! Best hardtop lift out there!

Installing mine today, I can't see, does the rear window get stored in the completely open position? Trying to get the spacing from the rear wall correct. What are the straps you are using? I have a white body color top and don't want to scuff it up.

Thanks

I store mine with rear window closed....but give yourself enough room from the wall to open and close it, because you'll need it open to run the straps through. Once it's lifted, then you can close it. As for the straps, those are just ratchet straps with the ratchet end removed. I leave one end tied on the rack all the time, then I just feed through the top and hook it to the rack when I want to take it off.

I store mine with the window closed, but I where I run the straps I put a piece of pipe foam insulation that wraps around the seal, this helps keep the strap from digging in.

After spending a day and a half in the garage installing this RACOR hoist, I am nearing the finish line and notice that I am missing one of the cable assemblies. Can you say angry? I guess it's my fault for not checking to make sure the employee packing the box had done his/her job. Now I have to either take it all down and try to repackage it in the box that is ripped to pieces and have UPS pick it up or try to get ITW Brands or Amazon to send me the cable. This is not really a product review, since I haven't had a chance to use it yet, I've read good things about the hoist, just disappointed in ITW Brands. I may have overbuilt the support structure, but that's how I roll.

Most all of these companies will send you a part if it's missing without much hassle, what they don't want is to have you return it usually.

I'd give them a call Tuesday, not sure they will be open Monday.

Man, I thought I had over braced mine! lol...

there should be an 800 number in those pitiful directions somewhere...or contact Amazon...they typically have great customer service. You only got one piece of cable? Of course, you could just opt for the get it done method, and go buy a matching piece of cable at Lowe's!

I took it down, boxed it up and Amazon has UPS set to pick it up and deliver a new one. The cable has a special fitting that goes on the axle.

I made a mistake in spacing on the rafters and so did the builder, so I just added more, then thought maybe I'll hang some other things off it. It supported 220 lbs (me) from just one 2x6, had to test it you know.

Ah yes, the all-important field test!

Still need to tweak it a little to get the rack level.

I zip tied a couple of pool noodles to mine to prevent it from touching my hard top. I love mine my hard top hung from it all last summer with no problems. It's just holding my soft top and bike rack right now.

Do you just use regular tow straps to secure it?

I bought some from HD, but I think they are too narrow, 1". I want something wider and softer, but couldn't find anything.

I used large pipe insulation, they are slit length wise and have adhesive, stuck to the support beams nicely.

I just use the regular yellow ratchet straps (without the ratchet!) - no problems

I don't like the ratchets, they tend to swing around and hit things. Do you just tie yours off?

Yep, tied off, and I hook the hooks on the rack.
