Plastidip

I put about 5 coats of black plastidip on my spare and then the darn neighbors started mowing. So pulled if off and will do it again later.

As anyone else plastidiped the fenders or other parts?

I plastidipped my spare just to try it out held up fine but just bought new wheels and tires so stocks are sitting in the garage. I also just plastidipped the Jeep emblem on the grill and it looks great.

How's that hold up on the door locks? I have halfs too and I don't lock it really, but curious if the locks chip/peel with use of the key at all for unlocking...

Plastidipped my wheels and grille. Love it, love the look of it. Plan on doing door hinges and possibly the bracket right by the mirrors where you would mount lights at.

I took my grille off and did it that way. For my tires I left them mounted. Put index cards around rim of tire and put trash bags around your rotor and brakes to protect them.

ok, this may be totally stupid but I have to say this. Whenever I see a Jeep with the grille plasti dipped head on with the headlights, it reminds me of a movie or show I saw a LONG time ago. There was a white guy and an African American guy ( I think the same guy who played the father in Something about Mary) and they found a bag with these special sunglasses. When they wore the glasses, it let them see people who were aliens. You may think I am nuts, but theres got to be something else who agrees with me.

Got my wheels done this weekend. Took a while to get them right, used about 1 can per wheel. Anthracite color looks great against the black!

I guess I went a little overboard with the prep, but I am extremely anal about things. They came out great.

Plastidipped emblem

While waiting for the Superbowl, I rattle canned my antenna and dipped my JEEP emblem. It was 48 degrees and cloudy. I took my time and applied 5 coats, 15 -20 minutes apart. Held the can about 6" away. I think it looks great and can't wait for extended warm weather so I can do my wheels!

Question: did you remove the tape on the lugs and center cap after each coat.

This stuff is awesome. Google it & watch a youtube video of a guy peeling it off an entire car. I've used it on my keyholes- forgetting to cover the keyhole hole & it pulled right out without damaging the other plasti dipped area.

Not sure how long it lasts- I've read 6 months and up.

It can even be washed without worry. I think the website is dipyourcar DOT com.

Not bad! Plastidip stays on wheels a lot better than it gets credit for. Plus, if you ever have to trade the car in, you can just peel it off and you've got stock wheels. Much better than just black spray paint in my opinion.

Anyone have any experience plastidipping the rims stand alone then mounting them to the tires? My concerns are scratching while mounting and if the film of plastidip will cause the rims to leak air (if I spray it on the rim only then mount). I'm looking for the cleanest look which is why I want to dip them off the tire.

just saw this post; but the movie was called "They Live" and starred that gentleman you referenced (Keith David; yes from Something About Mary) and the one and only Rowdy Roddy Piper (longtime nemesis of Hulk Hogan and on/off bad guy star of WWF)

It was common to see "plasti-derp" threads on Tacoma World. The general feeling over there was that it's fine for interior components, but otherwise it will chip and flake off.

I moved from Michigan to Texas in August, after dipping my grille. It took all kinds of hits and a few pinholes in the dip were noticeable. I peeled it off but left the logo black. It took about an hour to get it all off the grille. Anyway, under the dip there isn't one scratch or blemish to the factory finish. I like the white better but also like the protection the plasti-dip offered, so I am dipping my grille white soon.

My wheels have been dipped since July, survived the drive on the move and several very rocky, dusty trips off road since. Not a scratch.

In case anyone was wondering what it would look like with corners painted. I ended up taking it off a couple days later.
