I think if some decent white steel wheels were available I would consider spraying the black hard top white to go for a retro 70s look like this CJ.

Gecko Sahara I ordered but decided I really didn't want so I ordered a commando. So this thing is setting on the lot waiting for its lucky owner and I must say it looks great!

Tried using some of this Plastidip spray paint that everyone seems to love. Had a couple of rough areas. But mostly I wanted a "bra" on while I drive the couple thousand miles home with the new jeep. What do ya think (thought I would check in the gecko thread first, so at least I am around gecko supporters!)

Howdy Gecko

First time poster long time Jeep guy. I will be picking up my Gecko JK tomorrow at noon. I have been waiting all week on my local dealer to make a swap with another dealer to get it. Trading in my 06 Cummins as its time to downsize and I miss my old Jeep.

watched it get built, only have pics outside of the factory (no cameras allowed inside)

0 miles

Pulling out of back gate after quality checks

sitting in shipping lot at the factory

on the truck

at home, tinted, debadged, and leveled.

only have had it for 2 weeks and it's already got 1000 on it, took this today

future plans are some 33's, winch mount bumper and wheel spacers.
Can you offer pointers on sticker removal? Did you have glue residue?

I am possibly doing the same. I ordered a Gecko but thinking of switching to the Commando Green. Are there web sites that you can recommend with pics of the Commando, bc i can't find many and my local dealerships have none in stock!!!!

Jeep didn't renew this color. Why? Sales, or was it only intended to be a one year offering?

The color started back in Feb on 2012 models and production ends in Dec on the 2013s. I think it was a one year color. I have only seen a few others on the road.

I posted an intro in the "new member" area, but as my first real post, I wanted to be amongst my Gecko family! I'm new to Jeeps & off-roading, but quickly getting obsessed. I snagged a hard top from eBay and now need to replenish fund for the next purchase... Anyway, here she is:

Looks great and welcome to the Gecko family. You'll love the hard top when the weather gets cold. Just put mine on today. Going wheelin this weekend and didn't want to have to scrub down the soft top before storing it for the winter.

Birthday Gecko

New to the forum. My Birthday was the 14th and I took the wife out looking at used Jeeps. We ended up at a dealer and I figured that since it was my birthday, I'll take a new Rubicon out for a test drive. Suddenly, a Gecko Sport caught my eye (they didn't have a Gecko Rubicon) and I had to drive that too. Ends up the there was a surprise for me after all as the wife had planned on getting me a new Jeep, so here it is. We could only afford the most basic model, but I do plan on some upgrades in the future. The blue thing in the background is my 1942 Army Willys, the black and white thing is a 1972 Commando. So I guess you can think of this photo as showing 71 years of Jeep evolution.....

From Q. I cursed it for many hours. It says it comes with universal mounting, but that translates to no hardware provided, haha.

Nice!! That's a good wife there, man! It's too bad that the Gecko color is a one and done edition. I really like it (second favorite to the Crush, which I bought). I was planning on adding a Gecko in the next year or two for my wife. Oh well, I'll get one from one of you guys (well maintained one of course). Can you imagine a Gecko and Crush in the same garage?

LOL! Neighbor has a commando green(think that's the color) JKU. More like a forest green/military green color. On my street alone, there's a dozer orange, burnt orange, silver, two whites, my Crush, and my neighbors commando green.

We have a Dozer and a Gecko in the same garage. (actually, driveway... they won't both fit in the garage at the same time. too many other hobbies)

Less than two weeks old and mine got rear-ended while the wife was driving this afternoon. She didn't bother to call the police, didn't bother to verify anything or exchange information as legally required, and she elected not to call me. Why? She didn't see anything at the time.

Well, the spare tire carrier got shoved into the tailgate and the only thing I can see is red. Of course, it's magically all become my fault because I told her that she gets to deal with the mess since I walked her through the other time this occurred two years ago and she elected to handle it her way.

Oh no, that sucks. Hope you get it fixed up soon. I get the feeling that spare tire carrier and tail gate are the first things to get jacked up when rear ended.

So, you are saying she got rear-ended when parked at the mall and you didn't see it until the next day?

Thanks for the sentiment. She assured me that she was going to take care of insurance as soon as the Jeep got in and of course, she didn't.

Oh well. Never trust anyone to do the right thing when it isn't the easiest thing to do.
