Took em both out for a proper run yesterday for the first time after getting the lift into hubby's Rubi Friday. Had a blast! We're pretty beat up and tired today after spending 8 hours on the trail yesterday, but it was a great time, and I can confidently say these JKU's are every bit as much fun as the 2 doors I've owned in the past.

I will say this, hubby's Rubi has the better ride with a Teraflex suspension. Mine has the Mopar lift made by Rubicon Express. We both had same amount of travel but where his eased through things, mine tended to ride a bit rougher. She kept up fine, I just think it's likely I'll swap this lift out for a teraflex later.

On the flip side, his tranny got warm on one of the hill climbs where mine was perfectly fine. So they both had their good and bads.

Looks like great fun! Kind of makes me wish I lived out west so I could have terrain like that in my backyard!

Meh I'm a southern girl. I miss my mud and my trees. But this place will do till the military moves us again. I still prefer wheeling back east though.

Gonna be a great Thursday if things work out. Scheduled to have my TF BB with shock extensions put on, to include take-off Rubicon springs and shocks (yea, the springs are better than mine), JKS quicker disconnects, and my stubby bumpers. Should be a great day, and a fun weekend testing it out.

PS got an awesome book on AZ trails for Father's Day. Was reading out while surfing on Google Earth -- perfect combo.

Cheers,

BobH

Sorry, I haven't been to this thread in a little while. I bought it from someone about an hour away. He replaced his stock with a chrome one.

Very nice! Hope your hand doesn't get tired waving at all the other Jeeps running around OBX. We were there a few weeks ago and that was the only time I've seen another Gecko out and about. I happened to be on my bike and not behind the wheel so I couldn't even do the special Gecko wave without them thinking I was crazy.

Special Gecko wave? Is that the two hands out the side/top like you're on a roller coaster? I did that one to the two I've seen out and about. (Possibly the same one) It's like seeing a unicorn.

Jake, what did you buy to black out the orange side lights/turn signals? Did you paint/smoke those out yourself or did you buy replacements? If so, could you let me know where you got them?

Thanks for the kind words. Just thought the pics might be useful for someone bc I had a hard time finding some pics myself.

As for reflectors I went to local auto store and bought "sunshades" a few dif brands make it. It was 10$ and took me an hr from start to finish. Very very easy and cheap. They also blink orange still and are very visible. I just hate the orange up agains the green. they key is light even coats so it doesn't run. Dries quickly and can be sprayed to ur desired darkness.

A buddy of mine has a Gecko JK and I am jealous! Don't get me wrong, I love my Dozer though. Anyway, I just made him some paracord grab handles and he loves them. I had a good time making them so if anyone wants some, PM and maybe we can work something out. Thanks!!

I asked my wife if she were to get a Wrangler, what color would it be. She thought about it and then said, Orange.

Planting the seed, brother. Planting the seed.

They are 33s with rims from jk motorsports called ultra gauntlets.

I test drove this same jeep with the stock car tires on it a few days prior.

Whats odd is I emailed the salesman this morning asking if they could price black rims and larger tires on it.

Driving by the dealer on lunch I see it sitting out front by the road all decked out.

Loved it so much I traded in the daily boring econobox while it still has some value, and am the proud 1st time owner of a wrangler.. already obsessed with looking for more mods.

wow thats awesome! congrats i just dont know what jeep was thinking when they offered gecko green as a "limited" color and offering just the stock silver rims. This color has to have Black.

Is it lifted at all?

No lift here.

Evidently most of the jeeps they get with these small sized tires are the ones they add the wheels/accessories too (and add to the msrp).

For some items its comparably priced and convenient that its just added to your financed amount. Some items like a tow hitch were much cheaper at the local 4x4 shop.

Here is a pic when I first drove it with the smaller tires. They did ride smoother with those tires but the 33s seemed like a good tradeoff and I was impressed with the look and feel of the larger ones after test driving with both.

Next up is some tint.

Great Jeep community by the way - Thanks to all for the information and tips!

Its very helpful to someone like myself who is just getting into Jeeps.

Mudders are lame. Learn how to actually use your vehicle while you are out west, instaead on learning how to abuse and rebuild. You won't ever have to miss the cleaning reginemen.
