Some of those bars have double rows of 3w LEDs and they will not be close to the single row of 5w LEDs.
You're correct about that also, though I'm not sure it's quite to the degree you mentioned. But as far as lumens per dollar, I still think the 3w per chip Chinese LEDs are the way to go. I saved almost $1500 on my 50" LED alone when compared to a rigid.

Good deal, like I said earlier I am no expert and I started this thread to learn.
As for the Chinese eBay retailers, they have the 5w LEDs.
Just add 5w to your search and you will find a ton.

Anyone running the new KC Highlites LED headlights? I'm thinking of ordering a set and was wondering how they perform.

I've seen a few people mention them, and I'm sure they're just as good as the trucklites, but I haven't seen any head to head comparisons. My biggest hold up would be the cost. You can get the trucklites with the antiflicker harness shipped for under $400 from discount fleet supply with the discount code. I don't know for sure, but I would assume you need the harness for the KCs too, so you'd be over $500 for them. It's not as big a difference as the JW Speakers, but I'm still not sure it's worth it.

I've been looking into them and reading a lot. So far, there's a couple threads on them -

New KC HiLiTES LED's against it's competitors

New KC LED headlights

KC HiLiTES NEW 7" LED HEADLIGHTS!

There's a ton more out there and on different forums but the consensus is they have a better beam pattern than TL's. Of course, that's completely subjective to what each person thinks is "better"...

EDIT - here's another one I stumbled across this morning. Side by side comparison...

I was looking at these Peterson's before the KC Highlites came out - it really looks like the same design rebranded.

KC HiLiTES 42321 - KC HiLiTES 7" Par 56 LED Headlamps for 07-14 JeepĀ® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

If they are the same - here's a video of the Peterson's -

These Philips LED01X's look just like the Truck Lite's. I suspect Philips makes these for Truck Lite's and now is going to import them also.

I do believe that the truck lite LEDs are made in the USA.

I also suspect that we are going to see a lot of these truck lite style LEDs in the upcoming year which will hopefully drive the price down.
Even jeep was showing these at SEMA on a couple of the concept vehicles.

Point noted... Philips does have multiple manufacturing plants in the US as well. It just 'felt" like a euro product to me. Interesting either way, LED is the light source we will all be using before long.

These are a different design then the TL's or the KC's. They have a reflector more like the TL, and the middle section more like the KC. Since they are marketed as Jeep, they may be a prototype design.

That's something I was interested in seeing. I noticed the design on the Peterson/KC light didn't have breather fabric built into it like the TL and even the stock lights do - at least none I could see.

And just to throw a new light into the mix, I found these Trucklite military spec lights - they note - "Constant voltage output does not increase or dim in response to system voltage changes" so maybe no flicker? There was also an option for a heated lens too! The bad - they didn't bring these to Jeepers to begin with and are marketing to military, perhaps cost is high too since it's unlisted, but I would think these would be great for the Jeeps. I may check into it more. They are almost the same design at the Jeep Trucklites.

I saw those too. There seems to be some controversy over them as, supposedly, they haven't been released to the public yet.

There's a company that is buying them, cutting the plugs off and putting their own H13 plug on them. Future (possible) warranty issues may arise from them being "modified".

Absolutely agree 100%.

While it's not an issue for me down here in Orlando, folks that do get freezing weather, this will be a HUGE benefit.

Up here in the great white north (Michigan) where we've had record snowfalls this past few months - I haven't noticed any problems with them icing up yet

I've heard rumors that using Rain X on them will also help keep crap from collecting on them but haven't tried it yet

I use rainx on both my headlights and fogs. Keeps them nice and clear.

We powder coated the Warn fairlead the factory Rubicon X red. The picture makes it look "light" because of the snow reflection. And yeah I love how this rig came out!
