Ok gang..........I told ya'll I was purchasing a BestTop Trail Cover for my 2008 JK 2-dr, and indeed I did.
It came in mid-week this week, but with all the rain we'd been having, it was not a great idea to try it out yet.
So Thursday night came, the rain was done, and Friday promised to be a great day, so I took the soft top down (not "off") and took the doors off, and threw on the Trail Cover before I went to bed.
As far as installation is concerned, it didn't take but a minute to figure out how to throw in over the top and which end was which. The straps-n-clips worked well, although I'd just give you a heads up that the adjuster tab on the straps may end up behind your running boards when you are tightening it down (and that's a little bit, not much, but a "little bit" of a hassle when you are loosening it to take it off, since you need to pull up on those adjusters to free the strap, and if it's behind the running board its a tad difficult to get to.........I ended up having to slide the clip a bit to manhandle the adjuster to a position where it could be released fully).
My biggest concern was how well the cover would fit over the soft top, (with the soft top in the down position), since I know that from day to day it may get rainy again and I didn't want to have to uninstall the soft top, and then re-install it, repeatedly), but the cover, (although snug on the back end) DID indeed fit over the collapsed soft top.
Color wise, who cares about the color (unless it only came in pink.......lol) but it happens to be gray. I guess they make other colors but only "gray" was available.
The plastic hold downs that fit into the rails along the sides and back worked fine, but I recommend putting the backside on first, and THEN the front. It goes a little easier for ya.
The front part of the Trail Cover that shows as being held down by the windshield wipers in the Quadratec magazine never really reaches that far down. It comes just to the top of the wipers. I thought I might try and stop my wipers in mid-cycle to allow a better opportunity for the wipers to act as a hold down for the front part of the Trail Cover, but this proved to be a mute point, since there is enough tension in the cover over all, to hold the front portion on to the windshield with no movement from wind or whatever. Sure was nice to have a clear windshield on Friday morning. There was little chill in the air that morning and my wife's Taurus had a bit of frost on her windshield. Mine..........Nada!!
Taking off the Trail Cover (other than the little bit of manipulation I had to do to get the strap release free because it was behind the running board), wasn't hard. The biggest thing I'd recommend with regard to removal is, be aware that it will be wet from the overnight, and your clothes will get a bit wet as you drape it over your shoulder to bring it to the garage. (By the way, I was asked by a friend of mine if it was hard to fold back up and put in the travel bag, and I'd just say that you don't want to fold up a wet cover. let it dry off before you fold it up......to avoid mildew).
Just as a friendly reminder, should you want to buy one of these from Quadratec.com...........they are selling it for $124.00, but JC Whitney sells it for $114.00 and Quadratec WILL "price match."
Ratings: (1= poor / 10 = Terrific)
Over all value of this top: 9
Ease of use: 9
Cost - Value ratio: 10
Worth the Purchase: 10
Here's a few pictures (note the Yellow Lab on the picnic table in the background of the last photo.....lol) of the top in place this morning, just the second time I've had it on: (I put it on in the dark last night when I got home from my monthly Bluegrass Jam, so I guess that means you could put it on with your eyes closed.....lol). Also note the "Jeepit.com side mirror that is mounted to the top hinge of the drivers side. The cover design leaves this mirror exposed.......no biggy, ....but just note the fact:
There are a couple of grommet holes on both door sides that allow you to put a security cable through the cover, to hold it on, but that's a bit unnecessary IMHO.
I hope this was helpful to ya'll..........
