Rebuilt at 145,000, now at 148,000 and running strong. Any tips for keeping up with the 2.5? I've been used to 4.0's my whole life.

I see you don't have A/C as well.

Well rebuilding it was surely a good move. I'm guessing that there are no secrets other than to just take care of it. I read that someone used the term "bi-polar power" regarding the 2.5. This morning mine was running so strong even with the a/c blasting. Other times it's a little pokey. But it always chugs along just fine! I just figure it's faster than a dump truck loaded with dirt, and they get around just fine too

My 98 2.5. 147,022 and she broke a piston skirt. Currently at 147,487 on the new 2.5. No one knows it's a 4 banger offroad.

Except when the 4.0 guys are gunning it spinning their way up a hill and you just creep on up that same hill with ease.

If you're running oversize tires on stock gearing - Regear.

It makes a world of difference in everyday drivability, including off-road.

I beat my 2.5 to death. It's not an interstate vehicle and I didn't expect it to be. Offroad there is no difference and I go places many can't or won't. Keep the oil changed, the filters clean and wash the mud out of the engine compartment once in a while and it might last forever.

Yeah glad I don't have A/C because it gives me more incentive to take the top off. Its the 3-speed automatic so I definitely creep up the mountains in my area creating traffic behind me but I've learned to ignore it and keep chugging along.
Only thing troubling me lately has been the fan rubbing the shroud when the torque converter kicks in at lower speeds. It takes off a piece of shroud once in a while. Anyone ever have this issue?
