Hemi 6.1 (pics)

Ok, sorry for the crappy photo quality, its from my phone. Getting ready to mark the points for the motor mounts. Wiring harness from HotWire Auto should be back next week hopefully.

What it started as.

Too late to turn back now....

It does fit!

I'll keep everyone posted as it progresses!

The project was a long time in the planning/saving...But now that its started its actually going much quicker than I had anticipated. Im thinking i may go with a 33 spline for the rear 44 and 4.56 gearing....anyone have some ideas? I know a Dana 60 would most likely be the best, but for now I will be staying with the 44.

Very nice! I can't wait to see how this turns out. Man, that's one hell of an engine. What are you doing for a transmission, X-fer case, drive shafts? What do you think the end rwhp will be and will that d44 hold up to it. Not trying to mark out but are you going with a Atlas and if so what crawl gear?

Yeah, I am speachless with lots of questions.....nice!

ok Transmission is a Getrag 6 speed manual, the same if not similar found in dodge trucks. the stock Rubi transfer case will be kept, my drive shaft is already a tom woods so i should be ok with that. the dana 44's should hold up, im not planning on doing burnouts everywhere. a viper with a V-10 and the srt8 grand cherokee i believe have 44's in them. as for estimated horsepower, im guessing 420. ill have it dyno'd after all is said and done. and i guess i should start fabricating some sort of wheelie bar?

Just asking the basics. If your not doing burn-outs no need for wheelie bars. Glad to see some build threads here. Can't wait to see the end result. Did you buy that Hemi new and when your done, my TJ is in the garage. I'll leave the key's in it for your next project Hemi install.

I got the motor from a guy in Virginia, he deals with Mopar Performance Parts and was able to get me a new in crate motor, shipping included to NY, for 7k. Not bad when everyone else ive seen wants 8-10k for a new 6.1 hemi. Motor is brand new, but I wont know how it runs until everything is bolted back together basically. Im keeping my fingers crossed on that one, but with my luck the thing probably wont start. Price wise for the total swap, i dont have any figures yet since as i go along im realizing what i need. I thought i had everything planned out but here and there im finding i need to order more parts or a certain bolt or mounting bracket. heres some of the main things i saved up $ for and that ive had to drop cash on: (its adds up fast)

6.1 Motor: 7K
Fuse/harness/computer remapping: 1400
Hemi computer:775
Teraflex motor mounts:350
O2 sensors: 200
05 TJ gas tank:430
fuelpump and sender: 250
and the list goes on.....

If you want another project 6.1, come and get it. Me and My 5.0 Cal will be waiting. Although, I would love the change.

The 6.1 weighs about 30-40lbs more than the stock I6 so there really is not much of a difference. I already had a 4.5'' LA kit and a 1'' body. I may choose to upgrade to some Bilstein shocks, ill have to see how the RE shocks hold up to it.

A complete run down of parts and cost would be great. I have long thought of doing a V-8 swap on my TJ.
