Jeeps with flags post some pics, especially hitch mounted

I did some research and see there are various threads on what people have done, from CB antenna mounts to zip ties on roll bars.

I had planned on using u-bolts and 3/4 inch steel tube against the back of the DS rollbar to fly Old Glory. But come to find out the biggest u-bolts Home Depot carried aren't long enough. Then I saw the hitch mount flag pole.

Anyone use the Camco hitch mount flagpole? What pole do you use and how does it stand up to highway speeds?

I'd mostly be flying her around town, but I'm on the highway for 14 miles total each day to get to work. Just want to make sure it'll hold up.

Thanks,

Butch

My buddy actually made me one for my birthday this past year, used 2 inch square tube and drilled a hole in it the size of the flag pole and stuck it in and welded it. Not great pics of it but if your interested in some closeups of the design i could do that for you

Does great on all roads even highways (granted im only doing 60 or 65 with that lift tire and gear combo haha). Its very sturdy. Holds a 3x5 flag

Close ups would be great if you get some time. I do about the same 60ish. How is the pole holding up? I was thinking of going a little higher than yours, maybe a foot or foot and a half, so the bottom of the flag clears the tire. Is that pole solid steel? thanks!

Ya its steel amd the pole is really sturdy. Barely moves. I wish mine was a tad higher so the flag flew more but it was a gift so i cant complain. Only thing is to get a string flag thats stitched a few times. Ive had a few flags get torn and fray a bunch

Sorry for the odd angles. Its hard to hold with one hand and take a pic. Haha cant have that american flag hit the floor.. The hole is for the hitch pin if you can kinda tell from the pics. If you need specific shots let me know.

Awesome, maybe a shot of how you have the flag attached to the pole itself, then i won't bother you. Its a great set up. There is a guy down the street that does welding, I will print these out and see what he'd charge to duplicate it if you don't mind. Again, thanks!

Oh ya! Forgot about that part haha. Just one of those clip things welded to the pole. Some flags fit nice and tight and some barely dont fit so i guess all flags are made different but when it doesnt i just use fishing line or zip ties to be the middle man between them. Id put a flag on those then hold it against the pole nice and tight to figure out the length they need to be apart

Attachment 282388
And no bother! Glad my setup will work for ya. Let me know how it all goes with the neighbor and hopefully some pics once its done!

Ok, one last question. I see the tow hitch below the flag hitch, is the flag hitch just cut into the bumper itself?

Thanks alot for all the help, and the super fast pics! I'll post pics up as soon as I get something together! Thanks again!

Not sure what your asking here sorry. Haha the flag hitch slides into the tow package and i put a pin through it just like you would a basket or a ball. Is that what your asking?

I only run the american one on the 4th. Mostly just fly my auburn flag during the season so my american one will have the most life. Ive found that its the sturdiest and hasnt frayed much at all.

In the second pic, it looks like the flag hitch is above the tow hitch, maybe I'm seeing something different, lol.

ALWAYS! Luckily, where I live, we have many avenues for proper disposal, including a grocery store called Big Y that has a collection bin specifically for the VFW. I'm an old Eagle Scout, so I know the Boy Scouts can retire them the right way too. I'm also with the American Legion and VFW. I never, EVER, disrespect our nation ensign. Matter of fact, my sticker 'kit' just came in the mail for the sides, I'll post up some pics once its done up. I'm red, white and blue, thru and thru.
When people are given directions the first time for my house, we tell them the street and them look for the house with the biggest American flag in front of it. The yard has red, white and blue bunting around the fencing, and different sized American flags around the trees and landscaping. Front door prominently displays a sign the reads that I Proudly Defended Freedom Worldwide and now Defend Freedom at Home, Especially the 2nd Amendment

All I did was went to truevalue, bought a flag that was on sale (I think its a 3x5 can't remember), and had some 3/8" all-thread in the work van along with some nuts and washers, and BAM! P.S. My tire carrier came with a flag pole mount so that's what its mounted too.

I went with a small one on the front antenna and then one of the ones that fly off of flag holders that are stuck in car windows on the back cb antenna.
And I used zip ties to secure the flag to the antennas

I just used bungee cords. One on the roll bar in the back and then another on that little box that is attached to the roll bar I guess that holds the wound up seatbelt.

My wife took it to the Max for a parade. The 3x5 is attached with radiator hose clamps to the upright on the tire carrier.

Here's mine. I used PVC pipe for a pole and tie wrapped it on. Just took a ride through town and got tons of waves from all sorts of people.

If you want i can get more detailed pics, just ask. All it is is 2 in square tubing with a hole drilled all the way through for the pin and a hole drilled only through one side for the pole to go through then welded together for strength. Works great. Doesnt bend or anything with a 3x5 flag doing 50-60. Ive had a flag or two stolen though so use sparingly...
