Looking to get a lift - Please post a pic of your lift and specs

Hey guys-

I have an 02 Wrangler X and looking to get a lift for Christmas. I drive my Wrangler to work every day and use it as my sole method of transportation so I am not looking for a lift that is too outrageous and will hurt the gas mileage too much. I have 31" tires now with custom wheels. I want a lift that is higher but nothing too much. What do you suggest?

Please post pics of your Wrangler and the type/size of lift that you have. Thanks a lot!!

mine- 2" coil lift (got 2.5" out of it) with 32x11.50's on 15x8 rock crawler wheels

By the time you got it up that high the front tires would be rubbing the rears!

Thanks so much Simple Scout!
I just put my condo on the market about 3 weeks ago and will pack and go as soon as it sells. I am hoping within the next 2 to 3 months.
Oh by the way Bigjeep! I ordered the black caps and nuts from rockratz too. Did you also know that when balancing the tires they can put the silver weights on the inside of the black wheels only? I had no idea prior to getting them installed at ok4wd.
This forum rocks!
Thanks again

cool. i think you'll like the center caps. ya i knew they could put them on the inside but they said that they would balance better if they put them on the outside so i let them.

What are the differences between suspension lifts, spacer kits, body lifts? I am kind of confused about all of them.

Does anybody have before/after pics of their Wrangler?

I have posted before and everybody recommend a 2" budget boost for me. A friend of mine was offering to put on a 4" body lift and charge $400 for the parts and $400 for the installation. What are your thought on this?

I would stay away from a 4" body lift, I usually never go higher then 2 on the body. The body lifts do exacly what the name implies. They lift the body off the frame. Suspention lifts are through changing out the suspension with new springs and other various parts, or the addition of spacers to the top of the springs. (I'm sure someone else here will be able to give a better description then I can)

Before pics

I'm not an expert on this but I only went with a simple suspension modification (2" spacers which are placed on top of the coil springs - plus new longer shocks) and new bigger tires. Between both I am up a few inches from the original set up which is great for me since I don't go off-road much (yet!).
Here are some pics of the "before":
(first pic is no lift with 30's - second has a lift but no new tires yet - my prior posting shows all the mods)

Thank you, and I was actually thinking of something similar. They sell removable stirrups for jeeps

Stay far far far away from a 4" body lift. I didn't know anyone even made a body lift that high ? 1.25 inches is the most I would do. 2"? Maaayyybee. But the absolute MAX would be 2".

A budget boost is discs that sit on top of the coil springs adding up to 2.5"s of lift. You keep the factory coil springs and add longer shocks. Some articulation may be lost but you can run larger tires without rubbing.

A suspension lift is just what it's says it is. It's a full suspension replacement. They usually include upper and lower control arms, bigger/longer coil springs, longer shocks, longer bump stops, adjustable track bars, transfer case lowering kit and dropped pitman arm. Not all kits include all of this and some kits include more. That's where the adventure begins.

03Leo-

Which kit did you use to get your lift? I like yours...not too little not too much. I have 31" tires on mine now with no lift.

Should I just get a budget boost lift with the spacers or go with a suspension lift? I don't off-road all that much...

Hey
I got the skyjacker one from Quadratec: http://www.quadratec.com/products/16117_108.htm
Everything you need is included in the box they send you.
When I did this I was working like 14 hr days so with no time I had a local mechanic install the kit. They charged me like 200 bucks but it should be cheaper anywhere else than where I live. The wheels and tires came after the lift. The shocks are a bit bouncy but feel almost the same as the stock ones. Your 31's should be great with this lift. I took advice from all the gals and guys here before buying and I am very happy with all I purchased. I drive the Jeep mostly on highways (weekend and longer trips) and local stuff (nights into the city) Hopefully one day I'll use it off-road besides playing on snow.
Cheers

Hey Miko, sorry to step in but I think BigJeep and I have the same tires: BF Goodrich 32x11.5's Mud Terrains. I used to have the same brand but smaller all terrains which were very quiet. These new ones hum a little, but I actually like the hum. They aren't too noisy at all and they feel great.

One more thing Miko. If you are in South Florida I used to get my tires cheaper than most places at Tire Hut on Sunrise Blvd (east of 95). They carry BFG's. Check'em out

I knew you would be here first! My rig doesn't really fit what Aggie wants. My wifes either I'd have to dig deep in my picture directory to find my rig on some BB spacers or OME stuff.
