My "new" '97 Wrangler Sport - Pictures

I finally made a move and bought my first Jeep. This is a '97 with the 6 cylinder motor and 5-speed transmission. It is bone stock but runs well. The a/c blows cold and it is a blast to drive. It only has 68K miles on it and I paid just under $7K...I thought the price was excellent. I had to drive almost 10 hours round trip to get it but the drive was worth it.

The only two problems that need addressing immediately are the passanger side sway bar link was broken (fixed last night) and the drivers side seat has a tear in it that new seat covers will hide. The top has seen its better day. I also plan on a lift, tires/wheels, bumpers front and rear, new step bars, etc. I am going to take a heat gun to the fender flares and see how they look afterwards.

Ignore the bright red car in the background...it is a rental.

Yes it was being discussed in another thread - I will follow-up with that one. The flares don't look bad b/c the previous owner put tire dressing stuff on them. It is starting to fade now and they are showing their true colors (or lack of...)

My favorite Jeep color! And half the miles my 97 has done.
If you get around to replacing the roof, consider black

Thanks for all of the comments. I am really excited about it.

1. No, the interior is pleather (vinyl). The drivers seat is torn up pretty bad so I ordered some seat covers for it yesterday for $159 including a free back seat cover here:

Jeep CJ & WRANGLER Neoprene Front Seat Covers with FREE REAR SEAT COVER - JCWhitney

2. What are "milk jugs" as referred to above? Sorry - I don't know the lingo yet!

The plastic bumper ends. You could also pick up a couple of tow hooks to put on the front bumper. Congrats your rig has the two most important things to be a real Jeep, it has round headlights and it's green!

Wow, that's a 97? That's a NICE clean Jeep! Of all the model year Wrangler TJs, the '97 is my all-time favorite. I had one for just over 14 years (bought it new in '96) until it was stolen this last March. I have an '04 now but I'd rather have my '97 back.

Enjoy that TJ, you got a nice one!

Once piece of advice, Mods and upgrades are a true addiction. Before you do anything, I suggest you do a tremendous amount of research then create a plan to accomplish what you want your jeep to do and what you want it to look like. It can save you a lot of time an money.
For example, if you are going to add a lift, what else can you do while you have your shocks and coils off. (skid plates, Frame repair, brakes, etc.) It sucks when you install something only to remove it 2 weeks later because you want to get at something else.

Just a thought.

Nice Jeep

Just remember, no 3" body lifts. And 2" body lifts aren't much better... stick with suspension lifts for the majority of your future lift height with perhaps a 1" body lift if needed.

About the fender flares fading... Try taking a heat gun to them! Works great! Might be time consuming, but in my opinion, it's worth it because paint chips, but heating doesn't

Nice Jeep,

Same colors and setup as my old 97, i miss that thing sometimes. prob just because i just wheeled and jumped the absolute piss out of it. i'm just slightley more reserved with the new rig, it still jumps a little. Anyway very nice looking jeep, congrats

I feel like I am living the same story...Sept 3rd bought my green, 1997 sport for around under 7k, with 44k miles, new black top, bra on front, oversize tires with mags, same interior (minus the rips).

Yours looks great, I will try to load a photo of mine very soon. Congrats....I share your Wrangler enthusiasm....ordering new speakers, grab handles, etc...

I'm sure your plan is the same as mine, keep it forever....only 7 years until collector plates are coming!
