Great pictures. I noticed different rim offsets with some tires outside the flares more than others. On my stock TJ I'm lookin to get some style of aluminum rims (can,t decide on style yet) and BFG AT,s. I want to tuck them in as close as I can. What would be the best offset to tuck them in without rubbing?

The stock "canyon" wheels that I have are 15x8's.

backspacing is 5.5''
offset +25mm

same tire you want. no rubbing. tucked in for a civilized look.

Thanks mrcarcrazy, I like the way your wheels set in and civilized is a good description. I understand the 5.5 backspacing but what is the +25mm offset? Is that the outside of the rim that sticks out?

Offset is distance between centerline and hub surface.

Here's another link...has all the measurements.

Did anyone experience loss of power when you moved to the 31"s?

TBG, that would be my next question. 2.5 6 speed here, no problems with acceleration, highway speeds, or pulling 5x8 enclosed trailer with current 235/75/15 on stock rims. If there is a big difference I may have to rethink my future tire choices.

TBG,don't know they were on my jeep when I bought it. It does lose a little speed going up hill on the highway or interstate. Otherwise performs great.

no clue on the power loss. It depends where you're coming from.

Mine had the 30'' tire package. which would make the 31'' upgrade no discernible difference

Any increase in tire/wheel weight will have a negative impact on acceleration.

Any increase in tire width will increase resistance, which will negatively impact accel. as well.

more power you have less you notice the small stuff.

It does feel like a little trial and error, an expensive test if it fails.
From what I can gather the best way is to have the correct gearing modification done, relating to the tire size desired. I just want to work out the maximum tire size without having to be concerned over power losses for my Jeep. I noticed that there was a chart on tire sizes and power ratios for the later Wrangler models (06-current), will post it when I find it. Is there anything like that for us poor TJ guys who want a more aggressive look. Thanks all for your contributions and great pics, lets keep this thread going till we get it right. TBG

TBG, you can look at charts graphs ect. but I find the best info from jeepers thats been there done that. I want that aggressive look but I don,t want to sacrifice power. I like to drive road trips and 75 mph is no problem with current tires 235/75/15. also the acceleration is good around town. If 31's make a small negitive I,m ok with that.
