RED vs BLUE LEDs??? Pictures Please!!

I have a 04 TJ. My instrument panels gauge have red arm dials. I have seen that Blue LED turn them purple......Should I still go with Blue?

Yes the later models with the orange needles will look dull purple with blue leds and are hard to see. Mine were like that. I pulled off the needles, scraped off the orange on the backside and painted them white. They glow bright blue now. The needles come off pretty easy. Start the engine, then take pictures of the exact positions, then put them back with the engine running. The speedo I had to do wile driving using a GPS for speed.

Red would be easier on your eyes, plus it doesn't affect your night vision...that is why the military use red. I had blue LEDs in my 240sx convertible and they were WAY too bright, had to change them. But it's whatever you like.

The military uses red for many reasons. Any light will affect your night vision. There are a lot more technical reasons that we use red than just simple night vision.

Like I said, easy. I used a fork to pry them off. I've had them off more than once to redo some things.

I was torn with the same dilemma when I changed mine. I decided on the blue and don't regret it. It is easy to see and read and doesn't bother my vision. My thought was if I didn't like them I could always order red and live with the blue or stock till they came in. They aren't that expensive that you are out of a lot of $$$ if you don't like the result. You could also sell the disliked color here on the forum to recoup most of your $$.

Cool.....How about putting the speedo back on? Did you drive and do it by yourself? Also you mentioned taking a picture before you remove the arms. If you take them off from a "engine off" position they want just reset?

Yes I did the speedo myself. Left the plastic cover off and the whole cluster loose and just plugged it in and drove. It took a few trys to get it on at the exact speed.

With the engine off, and the cluster out, the needles just flop/move around. There is no "reset" position. The system does not know there the needle is pointed. Take the picture with it running. And put them back with it running in the same position as the pictures. Obviously the water temp can change, so do it when cold.

Thanks for the input. I have a couple other questions then I will leave u alone.

1) my gauge arms have red that extends to the top of the back center tops. Doesn't look like you can scrape these down?

2) can u send me pick of you dash with the light on at night and what they look in the day light?
