Those are tent catapillars. There are awful and destroy trees really bad.

We had an epidemic about 10 years ago, used to scrape them off the trees and burn em. They were so thick that you couldn't see the bark.

They suck man. The DEC in WNY released a type of fly that eats their larva so their numbers have cut back drastically.

No need to go out and kill them, they were a problem years ago because they kind of exploded onto the environment scene. There are a natural part of the ecosystem now.

However, I definitely go out of my way to squish one if I see it crawling around. They are furry and the head represents the butt (very similar in appearence).

They are often a grayish-blue in color with either yellow/red diamonds down the center of their back.

Tent worms! We had those in the Michigan in the late '80s early '90s. They were so thick in the U.P. it seemed like it would "rain" caterpillers in the woods! It was nasty.

Howdy, new to the site! Picked up this 97 for the wife from a friend of a friend. Has a 99 body with 30K miles on it, 5 speed, 84K miles on the 4.0L. It was in pieces when we first saw it... no doors, cracked windshield, etc. In the last few weeks we've got new carpet put in, a new windshield, new Bestop soft doors and soft top, new water pump, new seat covers, got the CD player (Sony) working again, new headlight, etc. It still has some electrical issues (gauges go on and off occasionally), and is hard to turn over some mornings, but other than that this thing is solid as a tank and is ridiculously fun to drive. We're looking to trade the soft doors and cash for some hard doors, but trying to find hard doors is worse than finding a needle in a haystack. ARGH

Anyways, heres some shots I took of our new toy yesterday.

Thanks! I have an HP with the Corel Photo Draw program, which I use the warp brush to fuss up the plates.

Yeah, I have mounts for them. The zip ties were a quick "lets-put-something-on-and-move-it-so-the-HOA-doesn't-complain-any-more" kinda thing. For sure not the final mounts.
