1997-2006 TJ Soft Top DIY Sunroof Kit!

If you have a 97-06 OEM soft top, and would like to have a "sunrider" type sunroof option, (and don't have several hundred dollars to spend!) please check out my Jeep Flip-Ur-Top website at Home

This kit is pretty simple to install on the OEM framework, and since most Jeep owners are are quite handy, installing this should be no problema! I have sold literally hundreds of these on Ebay over the years, with 100% positive feedback. Now I would like to offer WF members the opportunity to check it out. These are some pictures of the finished install on my 2000TJ:

Thanks for looking, and please share the info if you have any Jeep friends who may have interest!

Thanks! It's not for everyone, but I came up with it because my TJ is my daily driver, and I kept getting caught at work with the top all the way down when it would start raining. With this option, the top can be closed up in about a minute. Also, I didn't want to spend $500.00 plus on a new top with the sunrider option. I still pull the top off every weekend though!

This was designed to work with the 97-06 OEM soft top frame.....so unfortunately it won't work with a frameless system. Thank you very much for the interest! Mark

I have the super top so it won't work with mine. But if I ever get a factory style top again I will be getting this for sure. Very nice product.

Thanks for your interest! The cost is $59.99 + S&H. You can purchase the kit from the website here: Home.... or it is also listed on Ebay, where I have over 400 happy Jeep customers!!!. (Some buyers prefer Ebay because of the enhanced security and buyer protection. Just search for "Wrangler sunroof") There are also more photo's on the website and the Jeep Flip-Ur-Top Facebook page. Here is a brief description: The soft top modification kit consists of all stainless steel hardware (bolts, nuts, etc) my propriety pivot hinges, galvanized header retaining bracket and heavy duty securing strap. Also included is the copyrighted instruction manual that includes step by step, simple instructions written in an easy to understand style. This manual is filled with pictures and diagrams for every step of the installation…which makes it almost impossible to make a mistake! For the installation itself, we must cut the metal framework of the top on each side (this is the only way to make the existing, rigid frame “flip back”). Everything is then connected back together with the proprietary parts/hardware listed above. For added ease of mind on your part, I also supply my personal phone number after purchase…so that you can contact me before or even during the installation if you have any questions! Thank you again for your interest, and please check out and “Like” the Jeep Flip-Ur-Top Facebook page. There you will find more pictures, diagrams and ways to connect with other Jeep enthusiasts, Jeep owners and Jeep related Facebook Pages.

Just bought my kit and can attest to the thoroughness of the instructions included. Nicely done! Before I begin installation, does anyone have any advice from their own personal experiences? Are there any issues with structural integrity or rattling?

I would also like to hear about structure and rattling. Also, how is the wind noise when the top is flipped back compared to closed and fully open?

Thank you for the positive comments!!
The best way to use the Jeep Flip-Ur-Top would be to flip the top back and secure it, open up both front windows and the rear soft top window. As per the instructions the rear soft top side windows should remain zippered in and in their channels to help keep the top from sagging back. This is the optimum setup for all driving speeds, as it allows the air to flow right through the Jeep, it also eliminates the air buffeting and “parachute effect”.

There are some DIY type write-ups here on the forum that just cut the frame so that it can flip back., which could cause some rattling noises My system ties everything back together after the frame is cut and maintains the original frame dimensions. So there should not be any structural integrity issues or rattling. I've had this on my TJ since 2009, and only on really windy days at high speeds will I hear some wind related noises, but everything always stays intact.

I hope that I've answered your questions.

Mark

Installed kit yesterday and it works as advertised. The hardest part is getting past the idea of cutting your perfectly fine tubing lol. Once you assemble one side, the other side seems much easier! Less than an hour to do. The recommendation of a tube cutter is the way to go. I had an el cheapo tube cutter and it worked just fine. Be sure and not over do it...cutting with a tube cutter on ANY tube is a slow process...let the blade do the work. All that being said, I look forward to summer!

I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere but would you mind telling me if there is a maximum safe speed limit for when the top is open?

I wouldn't think any normal highway driving speed (up to 75mph) is a problem. I've gone up tp 75 in my Jeep with the top flipped back and have had no issue. But I usually don't go faster than that anyhow!!!

The best thing to do is open up both front windows, roll the rear window up or down, and leave the backseat side windows zippered in their rails so the high speed wind will flow right through the Jeep.

Good luck!!
