No you don't have to be in the military to paint your jeep OD Green (Olive Drab Green) and/or put a star and the numbers on the hood. If I was you I would do it JUST to offend people, but I would be wanting to offend those anti-military people. I wouldn't see you as a poser but a supporter. Not everyone is cut out for the military but that doesn't mean you can't drive a jeep painted like a military jeep or drive a humvee or a deuce and a half either to show your support or because you like the look.

You should do it.

Chris

AGREED!

Do what makes you happy and makes it look cool. Hell nowadays they have the TJ with the 41MB-04TJ on the hood where the Rubicon decals go, and they don't even have the Jeeps in OD Green!!!! Jeebus *expletive* Christmas!!! THATS POSER! If you do it yourself, stand by it.

I think Cain struck a hit with his paint scheme. I like it, and I hope it pisses off the war protesters

sorry.../rant

The minute you support them, YJ, you stand with them in spirit. Paint it up. We need more people in the United States to scream their support for our troops from the roof tops. They need to hear it and see it every day.

Alright, its settled. The first day I get my YJ, its getting rattle-canned. Not the chrome job that I did on my last one. OD GREEN for the troops, vets, the soon to be soldiers and for America.

Cain, thank you. Thank you for the great idea, and sorry I stole it . If you already have the patent, I'll be glad to send you a settlement check

OK guys... First off, THANK YOU! It really means a lot.

And... I also believe that no matter if you're in the heat of battle or at home in support, you stand united with the men and women who defend this nation. Hell, the people who support the troops make it possible for the troops to do what they do. Just as the soldiers make it possible for the supporters to have that freedom.

Hehehe... In a perfect world, ALL Jeeps would be OD Green! It just happens to be my favorite color.

I know EXACTLY what I'm gonna say when the first bonehead says something negative about my Jeep. I'm gonna say: "Well then, you should thank all the vets for the freedom to be able to hate my Jeep!" Then, I'll probably take his teeth out.... But that's another story!

Listen, in the current climate, our men and women in uniform need all the support they can get. It's almost like a repeat of Viet Nam, what with people spitting on the returning troops and all.
I'm very proud of my brothers and sisters in arms and have dedicated this Jeep to them. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. I stenciled "54MED" on the front and rear. It looks like an actual unit marking. But, to me it is very significant. It's my own little way of dedicating the Jeep to a select group of soldiers that are very close to my heart. Soldiers whom I dealt with personally.

The thing to remember is. You are free to do what ever you want to, to your Jeep. And if you choose to return the favor of that freedom by expressing your support for the troops both past and present. The go for it. Besides, if you are at a public place and someone starts up some crap, you'll probably have a whole bunch of people come out of the wood work to help you out. Cuz, (I've learned this) even in the most liberal of communities, there is a shit load of vets out there!

And YJguy... No, I don't hold the patent... But if you still want to send that check... I'll take it!

And yjwrangler, and anyone else who wnats too... I and the rest of the vets in the world would be honored. So paint that baby!

Here's the link to my thread about the Sarge and you can see the way he progressed.

my childhood returned thread

I took my time. I only painted him one panel at a time over the course of 2 weeks or so. The beautiful thing about doing it in rattle-can, is the fact that if you mess up, it's not that expensive to fix. And if you just wait a little while, you can go back and fix it. Another thing to keep in mind is that it doesn't need to be perfect. I have never ridden in a pristine military vehicle. Dang, this thing feels just like my old Humvee.
The stencils are easy to do... I made my own, but you can get stencil kits at Office Max or if you know someone who does any print making, you could ask them.
I'm sure a sign shop could help you as well.
If you want to go with stencils, just remember to use a light touch.

And most of all.... HAVE FUN! That's what its all about!

I asked Chris to write up a "how to" thread because it was pretty interesting watching him rattle can that thing in the parking lot and he's got a lot of know how when it comes to paint, but I'm taking him down to Oceanside right now so give him a little time.

I'm sure he'll answer all your questions, no worries.

Only if it goes to an engine/trans swap. Those 4 rabid/drunken squirrels need to be put out to pasture...or pan-fried with some butter, next to my biscuits and gravey!

Thanks, I could get more out of it with revolver shackles on the rear only. I hear so much good and bad about them though I am still on the fence.

94 wrangler

I picked this up near boston, ma on fathers day. Got her for $900. Needed tires. The front yoke in the axle has a leak, no big deal to fix and the actuator on the front axle is rusty and dont work. Other than that it has a new top, and only 4 small spots of rust.

IT has 184,000 miles.
